Re: [ACEsthetics] Lesion in mandible area of apex of 19 roots

Well I know I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one, and it's easy after reading the OP's impression to say that I agree, but I would have agreed this was BFFOD. 2 problems with BFOL's: 1. occasionally they do get expansive enough where they've got to be treated and 2. if there is an infection in the area, because of the sclerosing nature of the lesion, blood supply to carry the immune response as well as antibiotics can be compromised, making infections harder to control.

Under most circumstances, benign fibro-osseous lesions (BFOL's) require no intervention other than watching for expansion of the jawbones. When an infection is involved, you've got to be a bit more vigilant to ensure proper management.

Remember, MUCH more common in blacks and much more common in women than men. Usually see these in 4th decade or later classically. Again, well over 90% of the time, no treatment is EVER indicated. Bt there are exceptions.
