RE: [MTC Global] PPP on FDI Policies in India by Tarun Das

I am attaching herewith a copy of my study on "Nexus among FDI, Growth and Technology Transfer for Promoting Industrialization and Regional Cooperation Among Asian Economies", Vols 1 and 2,  pp.1-190, prepared as a Consultant for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UN-ESCAP), Bangkok, Thailand in 1997. Although dated, conclusions still hold good. These volumes will provide answers to your questions. In brief, the economic benefits of FDI are many and the criticisms of FDI in the retail sector are basically political or ideological. Otherwise, FDI like foreign trade provides a win-win situation for both host country and home country.

I am also attaching another paper of mine on "Outward FDI from India to other countries".

Dear Tarun,

Thank you very much for very informative  and comprehensive PPT on FDI.  Only two queries I would like to make to understand it better.

  1.  You have not indicated disadvantages, if any, of FDI. If none at all, then why most parties are opposing FDI in retail?
  2.  The share of FDI  shows an increasing trend from 1990 to 1995. However it  is decreasing  significantly from 1995 to 2000  in most countries except Hong Kong,  why?

May like to enlighten on above.

Regards,

Dr R P Singh

Dear All,

I am attaching herewith a copy of a similar presentation on FDI policies in India made by me in July 2006. Although it is dated, most of the conclusions regarding policies remain unchanged.  However, volume of both outward and inward FDI have increased many fold and composition has changed since then.

Dear friends,

Dept of Commerce and Economics of St.Aloysius college (autonomous institution), Jabalpur have conducted a 2 day national conference on “FDI Indian market invasion and economic reforms”, on28th and 29thMarch, 2014. I attended this conference as guest speaker and special guest of honour. I just thought of sharing my PPT containing- compilation of FDI guidelines issued by RBI, Dept of Industrial policy and promotion, Ministry of commerce and industry, Govt of India , global experience on FDI a report by IFC and China’s experience in FDI in retail sector and its lessons for India- as it may be of use to research scholars and those interested in this subject.

I would like to thank Dr.Bholanath Dutta for suggesting my name to the organizers of this conference when wanted a person with domain knowledge.

With warm regards,

B.N.V.Parthasarathi.
