Re: [MTC Global] Gita in schools? Improper, says CPI-M

Bhagvad Gita does classification of society on the base of the 'swadharama'. That means a brahmin is suppose to do something which is called his swadharma , like reading and writing on scriptures , officiating rituals . It was suggested a Swadharma of brahmin is sattwic . What krishna meant by Brahmins, are the once who does regular study of scripture and is capable of giving higher philosophical knowledge, they are similar to the academic and teaching class of present society. Kshtriyas are the protector of the lands . There swadharma of Kshtriyas are Rajasic, and they have the responsibilities  of acquisition and protection of territory and they are similar to admistrators/managers and politicians of present society . The Vaishyas use to take care of the business activities , they are generally the entrepreneurial class in present society and there swadharma is considered as Rajasic and Tamasic. The sudras whereas use to serve with different activities to the other three classes, and they are similar to the technologist class of present society and swadharma is predominantly tamasic. Remember technology both the need of business by its business application, administrator by its numerous governance application , and academicians by its elibrary , online teaching and numerous teaching software application.

This classification of activities according to the swadharma is a way Bhagvad Gita advised to keep a man continue doing his work and yet develop spiritually . Bhagvad Gita prescribed renunciation in action , and not from action .

I would request people not to decimate Bhagvad Gita , as the tool which some religious zealots/psuedo securalist would like to do that it is used  as a tool of making a particular class untouchable.

I have seen it while addressing my lecture series of Wisdom Stimulus - Application of Bhagvad Gita in Management to some of the best minds . While addressing with this topic in a reputed business school in Hyderabad , the first question came out is

"Isn't it religious and not a ideal book to refer in Management curriculum, specially to teach Management, where there are many participants from many different religion"

My answer was " Historically this book was spelled out in between a war to discriminate between righteousness (dharma) and unrighteousness (adharma). The eighteen chapter are all 18 yogas starting from "Yoga of Despondency" to "Yoga of Liberation".And it is a standard document which  takes a man from despondency , confusion , nervous breakdown to courage, freedom , knowledge , Wisdom . It is considered as gem by some of the greatest minds of the world like Einstein , Max Mullar, Tagore who have nothing to do in any religion, and they categorically
mentioned the philosophy expressed here which integrated all school of philosophy in India , is unique . If one religion tries to take the best out of it  what is the harm in it ? Should you not also try to take best of it and learn the best lessons, of philosophy and living which is present there ? Why to put this label of "religion" and make yourself deprived from this great work, in the history of humanity ? "

My dear venkatesam,

I feel you must study the history how sudras are treated in their own country, who created untouchable, and what scriptures were used against them.

Dear and respected MTCians,

If any doctrine or gospel suggests righteous living, the pseudo- secularists will oppose it. More so, if it is from Hindu scriptures.

The civic and social behavior of man is tending to go down all time low and educational system has a role to stem / correct it. Moral education without quoting prophetical ancient scriptures as reference point or anecdote is not at all wrong. For that matter from any religion.

However, we see the vociferousness of a few whenever Hindu scriptures are quoted. They are silent when other similar references from other religion are quoted.

We have a very perverted definition of SECULARISM, particularly in our country.

Let noble thoughts come from wherever is the first verse from RIG VEDA.

"Let noble thoughts come from wherever" here is SECULARISM but when you say,  it is from "RIG VEDA", it becomes communal or anti-secularism.

New Delhi, Aug 3: The CPI-M Sunday described as "improper and unwarranted" Supreme Court judge A.R. Dave's suggestion that the Gita and the Mahabaratha should be taught in schools.

"What Justice Dave has advocated is religious instruction in all schools from Class I. Compulsory religious instruction in government schools violates the basic secular principle enshrined in the constitution," the Communist Party of India-Marxist said.

"It is unfortunate that a sitting judge of the Supreme Court propounds his personal views which go against the grain of the secular democratic constitutional principle which he as a judge is expected to uphold," said a party statement.

Judge Dave said here Saturday: "Had I been the dictator of India, I would have introduced the Gita and Mahabharata in Class I. That is the way you learn how to live life. I am sorry if somebody says I am secular or I am not secular. But we have to get good things from everywhere."
