Re: [MTC Global] Breakthrough Innovation : IIM Ahmadabad invites government officials, executives for new faculty post ‘Professor of Management Practice’

Nanda, Mr Natrajan might be knowing, was recruited from sister concern Hrvd Law School. IIMA initially was founded in 63 in collaboration with HBS. HBS has been in existence for about 100 more years. In spite of it, the gap between the ranking of 2 has narrowed down marvelously - I understand IIMA was ranked 13th internationally among BS by Financial Times. While one is not speaking of parity between 2 as yet, could it be that IIMA is the best or most successful collaboration HBS had so far?

MHRD has already cleared that Institutions can recruit industry professionals as adjunct faculty and reflect the name in the faculty strength for all purpose.
But IIM-A takes one step ahead and it is truly a great move which other institutions also can follow or take up the matter to AICTE/UGC to approve the same for other institutions too.

In a first for the country's premier business schools, IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is planning to tap senior corporate executives and government officials for a new faculty position called, 'Professor of management practice', inviting non Phds to come and teach at the institute. The new position is different from visiting faculty members and is targetted at those considering a serious full time career in academics.

Re: [MTC Global] Breakthrough Innovation : IIM Ahmadabad invites government officials, executives for new faculty post ‘Professor of Management Practice’

Excellent move by IIM (A). In my knowledge , IIM Indore had already introduced this position under the able leadership of Dr. N. Ravichandran, some time back.

I am sure this new position would help the existing students at IIMs/IITs to get a better understanding of the real world problems & become Industry-ready from day one.

This can also be implemented at Tier -II institutions where professional students need more exposure to hands-on-experience sharing Senior Industry professionals.

THIS IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR AS STUDENTS IN TIER-II INSTITUTIONS MERELY HAVE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE & GROSSLY MISS THE APPLIED & PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE.

Solicit views from fellow MTCians.

Thanks & Regards,

RE: [MTC Global] India's Higher Education Needs to Change Completely: Former President Abdul Kalam

First requirement is to make existing ITIS and Vocational Training Centers productive so that 100% youth coming out of them are good at their skills. So is not the case at the moment. These centers do not have latest machines being used in the industry or required for precision work, they do not have sufficient and skilled staff and they are knee-deep in corruption.

Dear All,

Vishvakarma, the first engineer in Indian mythology, responsible for creating infrastructure, has 5 sons Manu, Maya, Twashta, Sculptor, and Daivadnya, the professional craftsmen. Later 12 "Balutedars" emerged like carpenter, black-smith, gold smith, potter, barber, weaver, tailor, mochi, etc. These 12 craftsmen were responsible making Indian villages and towns economically self-sustained. However. Lord Macaulay  cruelly broke this system in mid-18th century.  Mahatma Gandhiji during 1930 introduced the concept of "Nai Talim" imparting skills to youth like in Sut Katai, weaving, furniture making, etc.

India, the 2nd largest populous country in the world, is soon reaching to 125 crore population. India is the youngest country having over 60% of her population in the age group 6-35 years. India has been facing a severe challenge since independence how to bring the Aam Adami above the poverty line.  Providing work to many hands is a great national challenge. Bharatratna M Visvesvarya advocates that a student leaving a course of study must support to him/her-self and family. Adults in  advanced countries like USA, Germany, UK, etc.,in the age group 15-18 start earning to support their both  livelihood and educational expenses;  unlike the Indian adults who are fully supported by their parents. Countries like China, Switzerland, Germany, Korea have introduced Vocational Education and Training (VET) in a big way that is being reflected in a higher rate of employment, quality rich life, national prosperity, etc. India has been initiating promotion of VET so as to improve employ-ability, and prosperity of the country as a whole. The AAP Government of Delhi has taken an unprecedented lead in the matter. 70 Point Action Plan and AAP Manifesto-2015 speak well about such initiatives.

We have a very few ITI's only 10,250.  We Train about 1.2 million people per year. But we have 40,000 colleges!!!  Indian mind is wrapped, we have a fetish for college degrees. Many of our engineers work as clerks in banks. China has 500,000 VET centers, 90% in rural China, training 90 million people per year. Even the small country like Switzerland has 60000 VET centers. Let India aim at generating earning youths right from the age 15-16 years or so, self-supported and supporting the family too. This is achieved in all advanced countries like USA, Germany, France, UK, etc. Then why not in India?

Introspect: From here to where we need go.

Regards.

NEW DELHI:  Former President A P J Abdul Kalam today advocated a "complete" change of the higher education framework in the country and stressed on skill development to come up with a workforce to meet future challenges.

Speaking on the occassion of the third Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar in New Delhi, Dr Kalam suggested that students in schools and colleges be handed over "skill certificates" apart from the conventional degrees.

"In decades time, India will need 300 to 500 million employable skilled youth and there is a need to completely change the university education syllabus and secondary school education syllabus," he said.

Dr Kalam also known as the 'Missile Man' for his contribution to Indian Guided Missile Development programme further said, "Two certificates should be given to students. In schools, one skill certificate and one education certificate and in college, degree and diploma on the expertise acquired. In schools from class 9 to 12, 25 per cent of the time has to be alloted for skill development programme".

Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal were also present in the event in which 15 teachers from different government schools of Punjab were awarded.

Re: [MTC Global] India and water

Dear Sir,

We agree, India is not a water deficit country, but due to severe neglect and lack of monitoring of water resources development projects, several regions in the country are experiencing water stress from time to time, particularly in view of poor state of infrastructure and utilities not in position to keep pace with rapid urbanization. Pilgrimage sites are ultimate challenges in this regard.
KEY POLICY INTERVENTIONS NEEDED THROUGH INITIATIVES LIKE "MORE CROP PER DROP"
    Water conservation through development of watersheds and river basins, increase in storage capacity and linking of rivers;
    Effective water use through improved irrigation systems, water efficient crops and recycling of waste water;
    Prevention of water pollution by banning the discharge of untreated sewage and effluent  in river, judicious use of agro-chemicals and regulation on over-exploitation of ground water;

With warm regards,

G.S.Autee

We as people can move step by step

1.       We learn to consume as much water as necessary and even small wastages like running taps, high discharge tap to be avoided and taps and showers with high pressure with less quantity of water to be used.

2.       We harvest all the rain water by discharging as much as possible underground or storing over ground.

3.       We stop discharging sewage water in the natural waterways and they will all be cleaned in one monsoon itself. To me cleaning Ganga is simply a bogey and source of making money.

Dear Sirs,

Speedy urbanization and ineffective pollution control boards have jointly created alarming situation; the reaction to mobilize vast funds for problem solving may seem to be panic driven.

  • Water harvesting may have to be indeed followed up by Zero Discharge initiatives and municipal waste water recycling along with innovative and comprehensive water conservation measures as well as outreach programs for social awareness.
  • This will certainly complement huge investments being attracted in water technology sector in view of mass contamination of rivers.

I feel unnecessary scare is being created by the vested international interests. If we can harvest the rain water properly, there is no question of scarcity of water. The quantity of water on the earth is neither increasing  nor decreasing, it is simply changing the forms. Experiments carried out in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have proved that recharging of the subsoil with rain water can solve the problem. In my Industry, underground water level had gone to 800' and tube wells used to dry up during three months of summer. Then in 1980 we adopted the tube well recharging practice by channeling the water on our shed's roof into our tube well, slowly water level started improving, availability of water from 9 months in a year has now reached around the year. Don't create panic, create awareness about importance of water in life and as individuals and societies what are our duties to ensure our right to clean water.

Mumbai: Although India is set to become water scarce country by 2025 due to demand-supply mismatch, the water sector is expected to see investment of USD 13 billion from overseas players in the next few years, a new study has said.

"India's demand for water is expected to exceed all current sources of supply and the country is set to become water scarce country by 2025.

"With increasing household income and increasing contributions from the service and industrial sectors, the water demand in the domestic and industrial sectors increasing substantially," says a study conducted by EA Water, a leading consulting firm in water sector.

Nearly 70 per cent of country's irrigation and 80 per cent of domestic water use comes from groundwater, which is rapidly getting depleted.

However, overseas players from Canada, Israel, Germany, Italy, United States, China and Belgium sees big investment opportunity worth USD 13 billion in the domestic water sector.

The industry is expected to receive Rs 18,000 crore in the next three years, the report said.

The country provides huge opportunities across the spectrum in infrastructure development for water supply and waste water management.

The industrial market is going to be the big opportunity till 2020, with growth in waste water recycling and industrial water treatment, the report said.

Maharashtra is emerging as a hub for the water sector.

Over 12 international companies have already set up design and engineering centers in Mumbai and Pune.

At present, there are more than 1,200 companies dealing in water and waste water treatment in the state, mainly cater to the small & medium sector.

Pune and Nashik are going to be large hubs for manufacturing & fabrication industry in pumps, instrumentation & monitoring equipment.

A centralized waste water treatment & recycling plants is under planning stage for Mumbai and Pune city, the report said.

With Modi government's planned investments in the water sector through the Ganga River Cleaning project, the Smart Cities initiative and the Swachh Bharat campaign, the industry is also hopeful of creating over 1 million jobs, it said.

[MTC Global] Breakthrough Innovation : IIM Ahmadabad invites government officials, executives for new faculty post ‘Professor of Management Practice’

[MTC Global] Why France is building a mega-university at Paris-Saclay to rival Silicon Valley

After decades of planning, a new generation of students and researchers will start their first full academic year in September 2015 at the University of Paris-Saclay, a huge, ambitious project to bring together a group of 19 higher education institutions alongside a business cluster on the outskirts of the French capital. It has been dubbed the French Silicon Valley.

The rationale behind Paris-Saclay is to reach the same size and level of excellence as Harvard, MIT, Oxford and Cambridge. With its higher education institutions already attracting 15% of the potential research budget in France, Paris-Saclay should give birth to Europe's top multi-disciplinary university, and bring a well-needed boost to France after years of shame caused by poor performance in global university rankings.

Formally incorporated in 2014, the University of Paris-Saclay has federated together two universities, ten grandes écoles(professional schools in engineering, agronomy, telecommunications, life sciences and management), and seven national research institutions – or at least some of their laboratories. All of them were previously autonomous and most of them are prestigious in their own right. They include the university of Paris-Orsay, the École Polytechnique, the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, the HEC business school, laboratories of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and of the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique.

There is a great variety in the institutions which are a mix of private, public and non-profit. Some are non-selective public universities that cover a wide set of disciplines, such as the University of Paris-Orsay. While others are highly selective and elite grandes écoles.

Covering the whole scientific spectrum from education and basic research to technology and development, the university is strongly linked to a technological cluster set up in Saclay in 2004. The campus and cluster are set on 7,700 hectares of land and have already attracts giant global firms such as EADS, Siemens, EDF, Thales or Danone, as well as more than 300 small and mid-size firms. The MIT Technology Review already lists Paris-Saclay as one of the eight world innovation clusters.
