Re: [MTC Global] UGC ‘no’ to retired professors as guides a big setback for research, say experts

In the age of click culture, a few fortunate committed research guides get few committed research scholars.

Else PhD (research) quality is not maintained.

Subject: Re: [MTC Global] UGC 'no' to retired professors as guides a big setback for research, say experts
Dear Prof. Dutta,
Let me share some my experiences as Vice Chancellor of
one of the oldest univerities in the country. My personal
experience has established that a professor who is
committed for research would remain always committed
irrespective of his age. And those who are not committed
would always remain non serious and would not contribute
any research output through their scholars. Hence, the
decision of the UGC (the body for which I had all bitter
experiences during my tenure as Vice Chancellor for 3
years of my tenure) is in contradiction with its own
policy of maintaining quality in research. These decision
are not tenable  to me.
In stead, allowing the retired professors as guide would  provide
good opportinity for the younger generations to improve the quality
of research. Hence, I urgee the UGC to reconsider its decision.
With regards,
Binayak Rath
