Re: [MTC Global] No NET , No Ph.D. Admission

No Net, No Phd admissions - In my opinion it is unfair anybody who has interest in research and in their own specialisation has freedom to take their topic and pursue their doctorate course and making Net once again as rules for taking Phd is unjustifiable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Why not?
Its all the more appropriate from the side of authorities
AND all the more easier for aspirants to take it again, for its a mere repetition

In the West:
A medical practitioner ,though USMLE qualified has to take BOARDS examination every 5 years !

In my brutally frank(yet, humble) opinion,a teacher has to answer the Q paper in 50% time he only set for his students/finish at least in the same time as asked for ,if Q paper is set by others.

Hello All,

My observation may be wrong for some cases but

"All high level UGC like commissions in INDIA are for more distractions rather than streamlining things !!!" Particularly Education Related Bodies .......

All such decisions are always harmful to the growth of the nation.

Do u agree ?

My take in the matter is:
  1. For industry personnel, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, had a provision for ME (by Research), no course work, minimum 2 years duration, based on research project ME was granted, no class specified and normally not counted for academic posts.
  2. Pune University, Pune, had a provision for self-guided research (no approved guide necessary) work leading to PhD.
  3. It is but obvious that  for research work, no formal pre-qualification plays a role.
  4. However, for obtaining a formal PhD degree one has to comply with the procedure set by the regulatory authorities.
  5.  About NET and SET i have my reservations:
  • Teaching (academics) is a unique profession (some would like to call it a mission) wherein the raw material (students) have mind that is molded by teacher's mind unlike in industry the operator turns out inanimate products.
  • This calls for that those who want to be teachers need to be trained for teaching skills (one of the vital skills in teaching) . In advanced countries, only a certified teacher is offered the teacher's post. In primary and secondary schools teacher needs to be D Ed, B Ed or M M Ed over and above other formal relevant academic qualification like BA, B Sc, etc.
  • We have NET and SET for Higher Education coupled with non-technical degrees like M Sc, M A, etc. NET/SET qualified teachers  more or less, it is generally observed, remain unemployed.
  • I do not understand the marriage of PhD with NET. Are they really co-related, affecting each other? It is on the other may cause more distraction for researchers. Hence, PhD and NET need to be decoupled. Neither of them is benefited by this.

Sir, If someone wants to do research,no pre-qualification is needed.
If one wants a research degree, then PET followed by prescribed coursework, followed by
the PhD research process must be completed.
If one wishes to pursue teaching for full time employment then, one has to clear NET/SET.
If one wishes to pursue PG or Higher education academics, then PhD degree with NET is a
must.
I believe the Govt intends to introduce these barriers for all aspirants.

Sincerely I do not understand why the Doctoral Studies are undergoing a lot of man- made

At First, there was a message that the Research Guides should be below the age of 60 only
and not above.
Then Distance Mode Ph.D.,  Regular Ph.D.,
Then came the   NET, SLET, SET etc., etc.,
Then de-recognition to  M.Phil., courses through Distance Mode.
Then Private University  Ph.D., State University Ph.D., Central University Ph.D.,
Recognised University, Fake University, etc.,
Then closure of  HRD Ministry, AICTE etc.,
Now, again the compulsory qualification of NET, SLET, SET etc., to get admitted into
Ph.D.,

years to just identify the research gap and when I see people around me identifying the
researchgap in 6 months, I do not know which side to look at. The quality of research has
become egregious and undue stress is beinggiven to complicated analytical methods and
esoteric mathematical equations. The basic thing about research is to explore something
new. That point of view is missing.  UGC is merely issuing diktats without knowing ground
realities .Sad. Regards G Venkatesh  On Tue, Jun 6, 2017 at 3:35 PM, Dattaprasanna
