Re: [MTC Global] Blue Economy

Well Said Professor. Still people prefer open defecation despite of having toilet in home in villages. I have asked them to use toilets. Only monitoring and management on papers cannot solve problem. This needs public sensitization also.

As far as domestic waste is concerned I think western world is definitely sensitive on the matter and all the waste is being handled productively by households as well as respective local governments. Sewage systems are so well designed and management that it does not create any environmental issues. We have problem in both the areas as far as waste management is concerned. Similarly regarding pollution, they are much more advanced, there is hardly any noise pollution, no water pollution, air pollution is regularly monitored and information available to citizens, their fuel quality is much more superior to ours.

Though we make a lot of noise about Sustainability and Environment protection, how far the views and suggestions are implemented is what keeps the world I mean the topic going round and round. Waste Management is something which has not been taken seriously by any Government of the World be it the so called advanced countries or the developing countries, everybody is a culprit and that is the reason why the Global Summits are held to pass on the blame on other countries trying to wash away their sins (maybe because they don't have a Ganga in their country to wash their dirty laundry and their sins).

I am sharing herewith in the link below, the agony of a whale which died choking on 30 large and medium plastic bags which went into its system blocking its intestines and leaving it to starve to death. It was ultimately put down by the wardens as their efforts to move it to sea did not work and the whale kept coming back to the shore.

In fact India was also accused of contributing to global warming due to high level of CFL in refrigerators and air conditioners. But the western countries dump their obsolete technologies and advance to higher levels and turn around and point fingers at other countries to whom they transfered the technologies. Even now recently the farmers in Punjab and Haryana came in for special blame for polluting the air of Delhi due to wide scale stub burning in the farms after cultivation.

Stephen

Thanks Professor Ashok Agrawalji for sharing very invaluable information to MTCians.

In fact, from the time immemorial the blue economy has been playing a very valuable role in the sustainable development of the human race: right from the creation of World (Brahmand: Matsyavatar-Fish Avatar) to Ramayana to Ashok King to  conquering nations through the path of oceans (Dutch, e.g., French, Portuguese, British) to Shivaji to recent China moves.Water body is over three times the land mass body. Hence, blue economy is very significant for the sustainable  development of the human race.

Meaning of Blue Economy : The Blue Economy acknowledges that some aspects of so-called "green living", such as buying organic food and using certain forms of renewable energy, can be economically out of reach for large sections of the population. The primary goal of the Blue Economy is to identify examples in nature where organic recycling occurs and mimic these processes to find out where and how the waste that we generate can be innovatively used again.According to the organization Blue Economy , the principles of a Blue Economy highlight that waste does not exist and nutrients, matter and energy have a cascading effect i.e. the by-product of any of these three can be used for a new product . The resulting new product creates a new stream for generating revenue meaning the Blue Economy balances environmental sustainability with building up social capital, raising income and creating jobs.

Thanks and Regards,
