Sir, There is enough work for everybody and yet there are too few jobs. We are still far
from becoming a nation in the Western sense. The newspapers reflect news that is dismal,
abject and sensational. TV is worse. There is a permanent political schism. It took us
over seventeen years to create a consensus on the GST.
Today, we cry hoarse about China's propaganda about territories that are being discovered
for occupation. Our newspapers print these stories almost convincing the Indian people
how wrong they are. There is no news about what can be done by all as a nation to counter
the Chinese threat except leaving it to the valiant Indian army to settle the problem.
We are very hard working people yet we achieve very little given the time to complete
our work. Some important points can be discerned here.
1. Sectarian and divisive leadership: A leadership that lacks vision and unable to
develop an achievable plan.
2. Lack of clarity of purpose, absence of consensus on what and how to achieve any
tangible goal.
3. Time wasted in discussing, ceremonials, muhurtas ( auspicious occasions), blessings
from diverse deities and entrusting work to incompetent people.
4. Difficulty in keeping the team together due to ego clashes.
5. Lack of skill and competence concerning the work at hand
6. Quitting, leaving the work half finished.
7. Supervisors far exceeding those actually working.
8. Dishonesty in communication leading to people working at cross purposes and creating
conflicts at work. Witness the number of cases of backlog with the Courts.
9. A corrupt administration of the Govt
Finally, the fruits of work being available to only a few being distributed by dishonest
and deceitful people.
Best regards,
K.Paranjpe

>Dear Esteemed MTCians,We definitely need to ponder over the points raised. It's not how
many hours of work we have logged in that matters; what really matters is what goes into
those work-hours. Only when we realize/recognize and accept that every minute counts, can
we hope to achieve higher productivity in everything we do.
Hard work should go hand in hand with smart work and teamwork. Ultimately, our aim should
be 'optimization of resources'.Cheers & Regards,Prof. G. Surender ReddyDean, SNIST,

The most productive countries in the world do not work 8 hours per day. Actually, the
most productive countries have the shortest workdays.
People in countries like Luxembourg are working approximately 30 hours per week
(approximately 6 hours per day, 5 days per week) and making more money on average than
people working longer workweeks.
