I have a long time pt who is suffering with active MRSA. It started in her right leg and she's been in and out of hospitals for the last 4 years. She will be going to NYC in a couple of weeks for her leg to be amputated in an attempt to eliminate the majority of the infection from her body and help her immune system fight off what's remaining in her system. She called yesterday and said that one of her upper crowns was out, but her doctors told her that she was highly contagious right now and her immune system was extremely compromised due to long-term antibiotic therapy and her blood clotting factor was extremely low...so low in fact that they requested her not to brush her teeth for fear that she wouldn't stop bleeding (that's how bad it is)...

So, like I said...she called yesterday and had a crown off and wanted us to put it back on before she had her amputation surgery. I'm not sure how to respond or handle this as it's all new to me. What is your protocol for dealing with this type of situation? Would you treat her in your office or refer to a hospital resident for tx?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
