Re: [MTC Global] AICTE on its way out?

Dear All

Greetings for the Christmas and happy New Year

Changes are inevitable.

As far as my knowledge is concerned neither the AICTE officials nor the UGC had so far bothered about the well being of the faculty members employed in Private Universities and Self Financing Institutions.

In most of Self Financing Colleges the status of faculty members are highly pathetic. Please refer the Pay Scale fixed by the respective bodies.

Let me place some of the observations for all your views:

Salary (Arts, Engineering and Management)

Ranges from Rs. 6000 - 10000 minimum for freshers
10000-17000 for faculty members with three to five years.
15000-25000 for faculty members with more five years and upto 10 years of experience.

Annual increment

Rs. 500 - 1500. If a faculty members are much closer to the management increment will be around 2500-3000

Leaves and other benefits

6-10 days CL
No medical leave
No Earn Leave
No summer and winter vacation
No subsidies

Management of these institutions lay down conditions for a faculty to attend a conference/seminar/workshop etc. such as:

The faculty must meet all the expenses, OD will be given by the management for rare cases: otherwise, the day/s will be treated as loss of pay.
They have restrained to attend paper evaluation, examination supervision works, allotted by Universities.
Provident Fund

Even the management contributions must be borne by the faculty and in turn the management will show it as if the contributions are made by them in their accounts such as balance sheet and income and expenditure statements.

Two Different salary statements. One to satisfy the Government bodies, AICTE and UGC as per the pay scales fixed by these bodies. However, there is no cross check. If checked and found discrepancy the visiting officials will be suitably compensated with few lakhs.

Appointments

According to their wish
Quality of teacher is not at a primary concern.

During the summer vacation, all these faculty members must take care of admission for the next academic year. Based on the number of admission salary increment will be decided by the management or else the increment will around Rs. 250-500.

One of the worst thing that I had noticed among the Principals of many institutions is that they very much concerned about their salary, welfare and comforts and never raised their voice in favour of the faculty members who work under him/.her for the sake of being in the good books of their management.

By looking into the above information, it is clear that the so called powerful AICTE and UGC failed to render the services and in exercising their powers. Hence, what we need at present is  to revamp the whole to create s system that could sincerely elate the quality of Higher Education in India at par with International Universities and can compete with them.
