CHILD SUPPORT - complications & consequences.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I am taking the liberty of addressing the  issue of Child Support. And ,  would like the community to reflect on the complications and consequences when a famiy is involved with this controversial  topic.

Definition: Child support is a Government Policy aimed at forcing parents to provide financial support for the up- keep of a child/children.

History: Back home , and especially during former President Amadou Ahidjo's presidency, the Gov't used to support families with child maintenance for up to 50.000cfa per month  for a  child with a view to encouraging population growth in the newly created  UNITED REPUBLIC OF CAMEROON. In fact  that explains the polygamous tendencies in those days. At present, there is no child maintenance contribution from this administration.

In this society, we receive money for child maintenance and child support is an integral part of the system. However, in  Latin European countries it is less effective. It is my understanding that it is a major element of destabilsation in the US amongst families.

Here in Britain, the Gov't is adopting a fair Policy with particular attention to family unity .

Assessment : Child maintenance in this society is very expensive. And referring your ex-Partner to the child support agency is not an issue. A gentleman with a sense of direction will definitely provide the minimum esssentials for his child/children to be raised within the expections of this society.
But , when a parent refers his/her ex-Partner to child support  because of greed and revenge,  then,  we have to reflect on our values as Africans.

Evidence A.  It is part of my repertoire/repertory to quote myself as a clear example in most of my postings. In 1975,   I was a pupil  in Catholic school Buea town when my dad left us for another woman in Victoria. My mom was crying every day asking my Dad to come back home. God  answered our prayers a couple of years after.

Complications: When you refer your ex-partner to the child support agency the complications are numerous including:
A) Persistent bitterness between you and your EX
B) Unhappiness amongst your children
C) Poor performance at school
D) Inferiority complex of your children compared to their contemporaries and class -mates
E) Lack of self confidence of  your children  with time

Consequences: Your child/children because of lack of love from  a  coventional family  home could show signs of irritability,  physical violence, self- neglect and inability to create and setttle in a proper matrimonial life as time materialises.

Executive Summary: If you are working and in a position of raising your child on your own,  please avoid referring your partner to the child support agency. Most of us living in this society are aware of the challenges  in raising kids. I remain of the opinion that the consequences of referring your ex-partner  to child support totally outweighs the benefits in every respect.

Conclusion: Despite my humble and relatively -deprived back ground,  I am currently enjoying extensive prestige across the Cameroon  diaspora spectrum and probably back home. Also, I demonstrate joy and happines supplemented with self-confidence which critics qualify as arrongance and boastful attibutes. This is simply because I grew up with love and in a monogamous home. What would have been my fate today if I were from divorced /separated parents?

Most Children  from separated homes or whose parents were referring each other to child support agencies  will  hardly display happiness and joy and often show signs of inferiority complex.

I will take this opportunity to express my heart-felt greetings to those of you who 've  decided  to stay in your homes despite the challenges of a marriage with a view to raising your kids accordingly.

The success of a man  is a package whiich encompasses the success of his child/children.

With Best Wishes
