Dear All
Onecof my ftiend was browsing through a book "Be a people person: Effective leadership through effective relationships" and what hit her was the perception of we as HR v/s what we should be as HR.
A beautiful short story of Ralph Waldo Emerson and his son struggling with a female calf and trying to wrestle her in to the barn beautifully defines what People' person is. Drenched with sweat, the great sage was on the brink of losing his self-control when an Irish servant girl came by. She smiled sweetly at Emerson as she thrust a finger in to the animal's mouth. Lured by this maternal gesture, the calf peacefully followed the girl in to the barn. People are like that calf, you can poke them, prod them, push them and they don't move. But give them a good reason – one of their reason – a way in which they will benefit, and they will follow gently along.
For all those who are HR people – People's Champions need similar that "one of their reason" to keep themselves motivated and be the best People's Person at their respective organization.
In my view HR people don't need HR for themselves, they need reasons, directions, leadership that guides + trusts + engages + inspires and motivates rest all we can manage on our own.
One of the amazing thing happening which in itself is a remarkable achievement for the entire HR fraternity is the social media connect and networking group via linked in, whatsapp, twitter, etc. If any HR/people's person need HR/people's person for himself/herself then it's not so difficult. I am proud of being part of such groups and connect…it's every day a new learning, new perspective, ocean of rich knowledge along with real time best practices sharing and networking.
In true sense People's Champions do have People's Person.
Best wishes.
