Hi All,
In Limbum(language of Mbum Peopl), Ta simply means Mr, usually reserved for elderly males. Younger males are usually addressed in their names; where they have children, they are called Ba...followed by the name of their first child. They can also be called Tar-yi ...-the first child.
Nformi was the title given to men who won a war-General. Their peers address them directly as Nformi..... Younger persons address them as Ta Nformi.
These days, Nformi refers to any man recognised by the Fon as having done somethng great for the community; a male traditional society also awards titles that include Nformi.Nformi can also be someone's name from birth or after their father, but it will not carry the same respect that titles earn.
I hope this can give some people-including younger Mbum people,a good idea of the meanings and use of some titles in Mbum Country.
I wish you the best for your interest in "Different Cultures"

Shey,
Your response was not helpful. I asked what rank Ta carries in Wimbum culture and you said, "Ta Nformi Manjong is perfectly righy." Is that what Ta means in Limbum?

SAF, "Ta" is not a title in itself. It is about same as saying for example, Mr. President, Mr. Senior Divisional Officer, etc. NDI MANJONG.

Ta Shey Sembe, Thanks for the promotion of your senior brother to the rank of Ta Nformi Susungi. I am not sure that I deserve such a peerage. But if you can have it confirmed by one of our Fons, I will gladly accept it. I think we understand ourselves very well. Tapsi! Dr. Susungi --- On Mon, 5/28/12, shey sembe <sembeas@yahoo.com> wrote:
