Rick, make sure there is some lubricant on the file.  Dry canals don’t work.

Thanks, guys! I didn't know that about the lip clip, think I might have turned it on first, then placed the clip. Will do all of the recommendations to see. Luckily, these were anterior teeth and it was super easy to do X-rays on them. But still.....

 Double check the battery life, and the leads. They can go bad...change the leads first...or do both at the same time...also, make sure you have the lip clip on the lip BEFORE you turn on the unit...that calibrates it...(all from the handbook) Hope that helps...had similar issues.
