Re: [Manyunet] Agbor Tabi's Ill-Gotten Wealth Vs Turpitude in Personal Financial Matters.

Hi All,

What is Poverty? Please  we are going too far now. Please do not accuse somebody of stealing when you have no proof. Freedom of speech goes with responsibility and respect. Today we are crying corruption just as other African parties criticized in opposition and have been given the opportunity and have gone down the same route. Whether it is United Republic of Cameroon, La Republic or English Cameroon, the end will be corruption. Just Like Zimbabwe in 1980, ANC in 1994. Given the opportunity most of you will even be more corrupt than the current regime. ' The beautiful ones are not yet born'. 'Those who live in Glass houses should not throw stones.

Dear Dr. Njang,
Turpitude in personal financial affairs especially for a lawyer, family head , seasoned Court Judge, Parliamentarian and most importantly, family head, is very unacceptable.
It is a shame that you can parade an enlightened Chief Paul Ayah as a 'poor man'.  What has he done with the steady income he has earned as a high-ranking civil servant?  Why has he specialized in owning untitled land like the average poor Cameroonian squatter? At the last count, he owned six pieces of customary land that he has not bothered to certificate.  Does Chief/Honourable Paul  Ayah prefer to stay under Cameroon's land tax radder - avoiding land tax due on certificated and developed land?
One would expect an enlightened Presidential candidate to pay more attention to his personal estate, unless poverty has become a virtue to be lauded.  Rest assured that I would not never vote for a candidate who parades poverty as a virtue.

Hon. Paul Ayah,

Do not worry yourself if you are declared a poor man because you remained a man of integrity. Kwame Krumah ruled Ghana for 10 years but died a poor man. He was once asked why he could not build a house for his mother. By the way, he did not have a house of his own. He answered that his salary was so small that he could not maintain the state house and entertain his constituency and still have money left over to build a house. By the way, one of his ministers bought a bed for 75,000 pounds sterling and that minister was thrown in jail because the minister could not prove how he got the money. I know Milton Obote, Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere, even Sekou Toure and Leopold Sengor all died poor after ruling for many years because they did not take advantage of their positions and their people. That was the Africa of yesterday. Only in Cameroon are virtues mocked and vices praised. The more corrupt you are in Cameroon, the higher you are promoted. You people must have heard of the first director of prisons for the Federal Republic of Cameroon. Ahidjo wanted to adopt the English system of prison for the Federal Republic of Cameroon. So, he moved the Director of Prisons for the then West Cameroon from Buea to Yaounde to become the Director of prisons for the whole Federation. This guy, an anglophone, was paid 40,000frs position allowance plus his salary. He rejected the 40,000 frs. CFA and requested the government use the money to hire another Cameroonian. He said his salary was enough for him. Dr. Bernard Fonlon who would have been super professor, never became one. When he was appointed Minister by Ahidjo, he was given a big house. He rejected the idea but settled for a three bedroom house. He said he was not married, had no children and so did not need a mansion. Dr. Fonlon was poor even though he would have amassed wealth if he wanted to. When A.N. Jua took over the government of West Cameroon from Dr. John Ngu Foncha, he fired all those who opposed his being chosen Prime Minister of West Cameroon in favor of Mr. Solomon Tandeng Muna. All those guys left power poor. (Ask about Hon. Ndoke, Ndamukong, etc.) Some of them did not even have houses because the civil service and political offices were not routes to riches. People did not use their public appointments to grab and grab and grab. In that era, people like Ayah would have been hailed as examples to be emulated. Today, they are laughed at. That is why ill gotten money has become the pride of Cameroon civil servants. In fact, they should not be called civil servants but civil masters. I will not even go to the extent of giving them the appropriate name I have for them. I will leave that for others. Since they take delight in the misery of others by plundering the ordinary Cameroonian; Hon. Ayah, accept your status of poverty with integrity. These are my thoughts.

Njang
