During my earlier interactions with politicians and police in my brief tenure working for an NGO....I once had the unpleasant task of going to the office of a BJP Leader to invite him for flag-hosting ceremony for Independence Day.... I had prepared a schedule for 10.00 a.m. and there were other distinguished guests from Citibank aswell with whom we had shared the schedule....after a 45 minute wait during which time the Netaji....finished his bath and pooja and came down...he spent just 7-8 mnts....and told me that 10.00 a.m. is not suitable as he has another hosting in an area which was away from our NGO....he put the timing to 11.15 a.m. so that he could do the hosting there and come down to our Institution....needless to say Citibank officials were livid and then I again had to tell the Netaji politely that the schedule wouldn't suit us and we wouldn't want to disturb him. And this Gentleman....this Netaji....along with his brother - another crook had Sold the Tughlakabad Fort to some Foreigners before they entered into politics and started wearing the Whites.....
With such people leading....no wonder our country would go to the dogs....educated masses are either silent spectators and audience with little power of speech in the presence to goonda elements. I ran into Suresh Kalmadi a couple of weeks back in Hotel Taj Palace in Delhi....it seems despite spending a few months in Tihar...there has hardly been any effect on his Health...Kaniozhi...A.Raja...all these politicians are now Out....and a common person if he gets into the hands of Police and Judiciary....has to go through Hell...literally.
I feel....Media alone could play a vital role in changing the mindset of the people to make them atleast responsible....to elect good and honest leaders....in the run-up to the recent Municipal Elections...I had a mail exchange with one BJP leader for problems faced by our campus residents from the CPWD....he did revert back urging me to be patient and wait till election got over....after the elections got over and he was declared winner...I congratulated and reminded him....he again urged me to wait till he took the oath of the office....fed up with the waiting I took the matter in my hand and wrote to Nirman Bhawan - CPWD Director and followed up my mail with copies to media...prominently marking the mail...it had its effect.
It has become very difficult for masses to trust any Leaders. That is perhaps the reason why the old adage: " A known Devil is better than an Unknown One." - may be this still hold true.....but whenever the water rises above the head....a mass uprising will begin and all the corrupts would be uprooted and would have to pay a heavy price....we've seen it happen in Egypt and Syria...even Gulf countries are now towing the line or removing satraps and monarchs who only fill their coffers without any sense of duty to its citizens.
Ramdev Baba's first attempt resulted in defrocking him instead of defrocking the tainted Leaders...he's been chastened by the powerful politicos hence he is now treading a moderate path.....also he himself has to do a lot of answering to his privately owned Island in Europe. So everyone seems to be having a skeleton in his cupboard.
Truly - Mera Bharat Mahaan....Mere Politicians...Pehelwan.

'..failed miserably in instilling a sense of pride and ownership regarding our country and creating responsible citizens. Long term positive change can happen only when this changes.'
These words are oft repeated post-independence during last 65 years – nothing has happened in absence of a concrete action plan and a motivating leadership. Good or Bad – Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdeo took the lead and we the people have rallied behind them but how many of us have pledged not to promote corruption by accepting the status quo and prevailing practices and started following the pledge!
I, therefore, follow the principle of presenting an alternative by my actions that individuals who at any point of time seek the change and look for alternative, they will not be in the dark and face a dilemma of 'nowhere to go'.

Subject: [MTC Global] Re: Difficult Times!!
Hi,
I completely agree with the perspective that the common man is experiencing a completely different reality as compared to the figures and rosy pictures being flaunted in various forums. The issue actually goes beyond simple failure of the government and ultimately rests with the educated mass of India.
Let me share my perspective;
Increasing the educated middle class has discovered the collective conscience of online venting and unfortunately feel that this is a substitute for actual action. This is very clearly seen in the lack of voter turn out from this class of citizens and the usual, cliched excuse of the system being rotten, etc is given.
The reality is that such citizens have learnt to operate out of the system. They are not dependent on government schools or hospitals and where required they find a short cut. So, it is enough to indulge in armchair activism and feel morally satiated that they are doing something for the country and society.
On the other hand the economically poorer class actively participate in the elections motivated by a variety of incentives, the main one being their dependence on the government provided benefits.
This has led to a fragmented verdicts as each person is looking at only their immediate constituency.
From an educational point of view, Indian education has failed miserably in instilling a sense of pride and ownership regarding our country and creating responsible citizens. Long term positive change can happen only when this changes.
Your views please.
