Systems Engineer –

Minneapolis, MN

3-6 months

 

Functional Responsibilities

Perform technical implementations according to project specification.  Clients are typically Fortune 500 companies with business critical, production eCommerce systems.  Technical implementations could include:  Physical and Virtual Server builds; HP; Cisco UCS; VMware, KVM; OS installations; Linux (primarily RedHat); Application and Web Server installations, configuration and support; ATG; JBoss; Apache.

 

Minimal Qualifications

The following are considered minimal qualifications for all consulting roles:

•         A minimum 4-year degree in Computer Science or related field or work experience equivalent,

•         Past consulting experience as the individual will often be acting in a consulting role and as a technical advisor,

•         A willingness to perform some level of travel to customer locations 10%

•         A willingness to learn new technologies and their applications in the enterprise.

•         The ability to quickly understand and be able to articulate business impacts of technical decisions and drive solutions to specific business problems through the effective use of technology.

•         The ability to prepare technical reports, client presentations, design documentation, and manuals.

 

Required Skills and Experience

•         5+ years UNIX/Linux Systems Administration experience

•         Physical system experience (rack/stack, cabling, hard drive replacement, hardware upgrades)

•         OS installation tools (kickstart, jumpstart)

•         Scripting skills (Perl, Python, shell)

•         Web server experience (Apache, iPlanet, IIS)

•         Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking

•         Working knowledge of HA concepts (load balancing, clustering)

•         Working knowledge of computer virtualization

•         Excellent communication skills

•         Strong willingness to learn and take on technical challenges beyond current skill level.

 

Additional Qualifications/Comments

•         Middleware application server administration - ATG Dynamo, JBoss, J2EE experience or working knowledge

•         Virtualization technologies - VMWare, Cisco UCS

•         SAN/NAS - EMC Clariion, NetApp Netscalar

•         Database knowledge – Oracle

•         Other UNIX skills - DNS, User Management, package management, OS patching

•         Experience in client-facing technical work

•         Ability to articulate multi-tier application architectures
