Dear Sir, I have high regards for the good work done by the Christian Educational Institutions. In fact, I would even suggest that they are role models of how educational institutions ought to be run. I would also submit that there is nothing wrong about any institution working for the benefit of the community. In fact, this has been accepted and permitted by the Constitution of India. I will also say that all other people have also benefited from the excellent education and discipline imparted by the Christian Institutions.
My remark on the concept of the modern community colleges was to examine their relevance in India drawing on the lines of the local communities setting up institutions of learning for the benefit of the local residents without any other labels of religion, caste, creed or other denominations. To my thinking, there seems to be no space for such a concept to take root.

>Dear MTC Members,
I strongly disagree with premature views of Kiran. It is ridiculous to state that Chrisitian instituitions are run for the benefit of christians community. It is run for every community in India.Christians loveand serve every community in India. Mr. Kiran must visit few community colleges run by christian community and then share his views.

Please avoid such views in this forum, if you have strong evidence then speak.

Dear Sir,
>Community colleges is an American concept where Communities seek to empower their members through education. These colleges enroll those students unable to secure admission to the local university due to any reason. These colleges provide education that is considered a degree below the University level, but still good enough to make the student employable. They also enable someone desirous of pursuing higher education to pursue the same after meeting the bare minimum requirements for the course. The colleges are not for profit institutions and purely for the benefit of the local community.
>Now applying this concept to the Indian environment one finds the following.
>a) University level courses are themselves of very poor quality.
>b) Distance mode learning and their study centers provide a slightly lower quality of learning and have filled the space where those wanting to pursue higher education can do so at a
reasonable cost.
>c) High level of diversity in our society have made our own communities fully dependent on the Govt.
>d) Our Govts are perennially short of funds to make the scheme work, the political bigwigs have already set up education centers in remote areas. They are not only short of good teachers but run their institutions for the benefit of the community(vote banks)
>e) One is hard to find a unique space for the community colleges to deliver a distinctive service.
>f) The Christian Community runs a host of institutions for the benefit of the Christian community.
>Many other minority communities also run their own educational institutions for the benefit of the members of their community
>I wonder if this is a stillborn concept when applied to India.

>>> If we are talking of the community college model of USA, I had the opportunity of visiting few of them. Government colleges are
called community college there, since they are subsidized both by Government and private sector, the cost of learning is much less in comparison to private educational institutes. However, they are as good or better than the local university like DAVV. You may find thousands of students in a community college because they do not deny admission to any seeker meeting the specified criteria, it is not based on any entrance exam or merit system. They engage themselves in all kinds of research. Acres and Acres of well-developed land, latest science laboratories, workshops/seminars, events and activities keep the campus abuzz all the time. Can we hope for such a kind of investment and such kind of facility here?
>>> I may not sound very rude, if I say that their community college are better than our so-called pillars of higher learning like IIMs.
