Hello, Rosenierman has just posted in the Dental Sleep Apnea Treatment forum of ACE Dental World under the title of Medicare has reduced appliance reimbursement to only two (2) appliances. This thread is located at http://www.acedentalforum.com/forum/threads/1415-Medicare-has-reduced-appliance-reimbursement-to-only-two-(2)-appliances Here is the message that has just been posted: *************** *Hello ACE Members, We feel that it is important to share this information we are sending to our seminar and software clients. CURRENTLY TWO ORAL APPLIANCES ARE NOW * *APPROVED FOR MEDICARE REIMBURSEMENT*** Medicare's Pricing, Data, Analysis and Coding Contractor (PDAC) has recently gone through a recertification process for the code E0486. A new description for oral appliances and criteria for E0486 was provided to the PDAC by the DMERC Medical Directors and CMS last July and a review process was set in place. All of the appliances have now been reviewed for PDAC and two (2) appliances are now officially approved for Medicare reimbursement: * *UCLA Modified Herbst (Space Maintainers Laboratory) * * *Herbst Sleep Appliance (Gergen's Ortho Lab)* Any other appliance will be denied for reimbursement for Medicare patients. *Some appliance companies have told us that they are appealing these decisions and hope to see more approved appliances added in the future. There is much more to be communicated about this so feel free to contact us. Sincerely,*Rose Nierman www.DentalWriter.com Rose@Dentalwriter.com 800-879-6468 Ask for Rose, Glennine.
