RE: [MTC Global] Big Debate !

It was believed in senior circles of higher education that Kapil Sibbal had created lots of confusion that is why a new team of cabinet as well state minister (Shashi Tharoor) has been placed in charge in the shuffle. I had a discussion with Dr. Rajan Saxena yesterday night who had represented before parliamentary committee as chairman of the education committee of FICCI. He is expecting to see some institution friendly moves in coming months that will push establishment of new universities and institutions both by established brand names in the country as well as foreign universities,

Agreed.

I believe the IIMs began this way to a large extent, but over the years have bowed and acceded to the whims and directives of the powers that be.

I remember a party, in the 90's, of our batch where our Prof. was asked if IIMA was better during our time (70's) or "now".  He replied that it was about the same and explained that we had a better programme and  better faculty, but that the 'current' students were much better than us, so it evened out.

So do IIMs train students to be outstanding or do outstanding students go to the IIMs?  I believe it was the former earlier, but the latter now.

Bruce

If we want Innovation, Research, Quality and World Class Institutions.

We need the following 3 things:-

1. Autonomy & Deregulation
2. Autonomy & Deregulation
3. Autonomy & Deregulation
