RE: [MTC Global] From Mediocrity to Excellence * *

1.       IDFC and Manipal have joined hands to build 30,000 hostel beds. Today’s world is that of demand and supplies are created to meet any demand of course, at a price. If there are more than one player, you can get a competitive price too.

2.       Every leader has to play the role of a mentor for his/her team members. So, one can always look up to one’s leader for mentoring. Second source of mentoring – traditionally we believe in individual worship that is why we have as many Gods -  out of this psyche every individual looks for a role model whom he/she will like to emulate. These role models keep changing as one goes through different phases of life and this role model can definitely play the role of mentor both directly and indirectly.

Subject: Re: [MTC Global] From Mediocrity to Excellence * *

By understanding that we should not let up the chance of making a student a better human being ...leaves hope for assimilating character building with the imparting of education.

the difficulty i believe is in the limitations of the time duration. but there are other limitations too which may or may not be visible to the eye.

The quality of faculty? Character influences that the faculty will project on to the student?

The socio-cultural environment to which the student belongs?

The value system of his/her background.

The value system he will be exposed to once he steps into workplace.

The question hence is do we need to increase the time period for stay away from home. In that case should higher education (read professional education) be residential, which would be a mammoth task considering the numbers enrolled. Who would bear the cost. Where will such educators come from who can instill such self confidence and self mobilization in such students. Do we really need many of such type of educators or do we need one mind or the mindset of one to change it all.

and fundamentally do we need to do it for all our students or for a chosen few.

The problem is we as faculty members too need someone to tell us now and then that it is possible. Otherwise at some point in our life we just give up and except the status quo. It doesnt really make a difference some do it early.... some do it late. Many i know .. seem to given up and many others are sadly on the way. In such an environment  to keep believing is difficult.

I know of a place who have a mentor system in place to make this attitude building effective..offcourse it is proving difficult somehow to proceed beyond making telephone calls for students with short attendance. the problem is not of time. the problem identified is of maturity level.

We cannot expect maturity from students. Majority just dont seem to grow up. The downside comes when the faculty in a pvt institution is young and they find it hard to grow up.

The faculty also need mentoring. that raises one more question...on the path to excellence...Who will mentor them?..

.Do we have that many mentors?Good Ones. ...Will they mentor all? or should they choose one worthy candidate to pass on their wisdom?

How many hope to find that right candidate? and those who think they had found the right candidate and were let down. will they go out in search for another? This is difficult question to answer but an important one because it ensures continuity and growth. two of the essential things for excellence.

everything else is possible.

thanks and regards
