Re: [MTC Global] How to choose your first job ?

It is possible when jobs are in plenty and student have the choice to choose. Even in good campus students are given limited choices.

However we counsel students on Career Planning, Career Development and Career Management.

I agree irresponsible / casual interview approach spoil the name of Institution also, even leading to debar.

In IT Industry I have seen that morning he joins and in lunch time apply for another job. So from day one there is no loyalty and sincerity and often fall in elimination list or slow mover list.

For frequent job changes both organization and employee are responsible. Good organizations don't recruit frequent job changers.

I had come across many parents who are frustrated with their son/ daughter current salary as they compare with their friends son / daughter. They continue to coax to change  jobs.

However we do encourage a program on Career Planning,Career Development and Career Management both in Academia and Corporate.

Dear Prof. Dr ORS Rao

I found your article on 'selecting the first job' very very useful. Often students end up in making a wrong choice in the beginning itself and repent later. As you recommended the students need to do a lot of homework before deciding on the job that they opt for. The faculty and the TPO can play a key role in counseling the students and helping them in making a right decision. Frequent interaction with alumni and industry experts, industrial assignments/live projects, frequent well guided industrial visits, etc will also expose the students to various industries/sectors.

Thank you Sir

Dear All,

I noticed that a number of MBA graduates change their first job within a few months of joining , as they do not like the job.
Such swift shift does not help  the student or the employer or for that matter , even the B school, as it affects its credibility.

I feel that there is is need to give inputs / guidance on how to select the career and in particular, the  first job.
While some B Schools do counsel the students, it does not happen in most of the B Schools currently.

On a request from NITIE Alumni Association, I wrote the enclosed short
note, based on my own experiences and it got published in NITIE Alumni Magazine.
