RE: [ACEsthetics] Fwd: Review of 2013 American Equilibration Society Meeting.

NOT THE TEETH.....what you do with them......

I have convinced........and no one can show me otherwises.......... it is not the joints, (that shows what happens)   it is not the teeth (that shows you what happened)  it is the muscles and their management.

MUSCLE MANAGEMENT.......

Look at all the appliances that you see that are broken.

Rick,
I like most on this group have spent a good deal of time in CE looking for answers and to get better and I don't regret any focuses that I've had in the past.  But I do think that for many years I focused too much on just the joints as the basis for functioning issues with the mouth.  I've had an MRI of my joints and they are deformed plus many personal issues with arch form and width have just always kept my eyes open for more.  It finally became obvious to me when I had a patient that came in after her condylar implants had been removed because she still had "TMJ".  Little did she recognize that in reality she is one of the few people that doesn't have "TMJ".

But she still functions.  And we were able to help function and feel even better with some of the NM techniques learned beginning with Facelift Dentures.  She wasn't able to go the FLD route but we still used them in rebasing her existing denture.  I think muscles are responsible for function and not joints.

I also think more and more cause and effect of how our muscles function will be related to airway, especially when we are growing and developing.

Amazing that the equilibration society seems to be all about joint pathology!

The funny thing is that I have begun to feel that less and less of the problems we see are the result of joint pathology.

The success of the AMPSA (NTI's and the like) and botox for head and neck pain tells me that muscles are the mediators, and you could throw in TruDenta there, too. Muscles, muscles, muscles!

What do you think?
