Re: [ACEsthetics] Get that Panorex on everyone!

Steve, as I mentioned, we had a panorex at Ft. Dix in 1969 and the radiograph just plain sucked.  It was diagnostic only to the point of identifying a body. OMFS didn't even want them for thirds.  They got laterals at the hospital.  The point here is a CBCT is wonderful technology but makes absolutely no sense for a general practice office unless they are doing a ton of implants and even then it is questionable because it with be out of date in a couple of years.  We bought the top of the line in CT machines about eight years ago.  It was cutting about 16 slices per minute.  In that time we are now looking at a common machine at 128 and 256 bumping the market soon.  You simply cannot afford to buy into technology that goes rank this fast.  Our last CT at the hospital was a 64 slice bought at one year old from a small hospital nearby which was getting a new one at 128.  Their average census is 8 patients per day.  Ours runs about 102 in a 100 bed hospital.

If you really want to see how the US government pisses away money look up "Critical Access Hospital" and what they get from state and feds.  A hint would be 10% above cost on everything they do.  Very few GPs need a CBCT machine but we know that many will just to have the gadget.  Guy

CBCT blows the Pano out of the water!! I can't believe how much easier it is to sell comprehensive procedures when the patient can actually view their joint and airway issues. Before I had my NewTom I was always trying to convince the patients that they COULD have a problem. That was not very effective.
Call Dick Greenan about a 7 year lease to own program. Mac, for you, you will pay about $2500 a month for 7 years and then it will be "free" for the last 20 or so years that you practice!!

If you have a digital pan, you put it up on the BAM for better diagnostics, and the digital image can be manipulated with contrast, etc and it is so much better! I promise, open those pursestrings, Mac, just do it! <g>

Besides, the pano is the second best educational tool for patients to understand the total picture with photos one a BAM being number one!

My frond office just called yesterday and told me that we had another subpoena from the coroner for radiographs.  Seems one of our patients was a drug dealer and someone threw hin down a dry well with  100 gallons plue of gasoline.  They did not remember him but I've been seeing him off and on for 30 plus years.  Had a lot of dentistry so they ID'd him immediately...xrayed him at the hospital...now crime lab has him.  Take that panorex and you want be embarrassed with they come and you have to tell them you have no radiographs.

When I was in the military in 1969 we had a panorex at the clinic and everyone got a pan, including the dental officers.  The quality was horrendously bad compared to today's machines but all they wanted them for was to ID bodies.  It was gruesome but functional.  Guy
