Re: [ACEsthetics] Miyasaki apologizes to Dr. Timmerman

Hey, we all knew you were a dick. It is your only redeeming quality. You could be an honorary Canadian.
We loved you then, why would we not love you now Mr Lance With No Pants??

I feel silly perpetuating this, as the issue was very minor and needn't have as much attention as it had gotten.

a few years ago, I was (among many others) requested to contribute cases for marketing.  It was long enough ago that I forget what it was for (my fuzzy memory thinks it was for an LVI effort, but could very easily be wrong).  It seems that I contributed this case.

Having done a LOT with the internet over the years, on more than one occasion I have put something on the net and found it later elsewhere, claimed as someone else's.  Even when confronted, credit was never given.  When I saw the marketing piece from a company I highly respect, I felt a bit like Ceasar (for those living in Wyoming, this means betrayed).  My initial requests for clarity were not responded within MY time frame, and I was hasty to judge.

I am honored to have the case included in the marketing and stand behind the efforts 100%.  What is even better is that my friend Mike Miyasaki is part of the gig.  At no time did I think that "Mike done me wrong."

At no point have I wanted or asked for compensation in any form, other than a byline.

What is even MORE humbling is an email I got from Mike (he even called me DR....!).

So, it is MY turn to apologize to anyone spending their valuable time reading all of this and previous emails.  I hope to move on and forget about it completely.

Please register for the course in May and say hi to Mike.

Dear Dr. Timmerman,

It has been brought to my attention that there was concern over the marketing piece that went out regarding Myotronic's course coming up in May.  My apologies for what has happened if you did not perceive it as handled correctly.  You should always be given credit for your work, and I will make sure that we do so even at the course.  You know I have always had great respect for what you and the ACE group teams are able to do clinically, and once again it shows.  I don't believe they say on the brochure that I did the case, and the course is not a full-mouth course so the photo they chose should have been chosen to inspire, something you do so well.  I have full confidence in the ethics of Myotronics, and I hope you will accept my apology.

But let me make 'bad press', 'good press'.  I hope interested ACE docs still come to the course.  I saw in the bio section that it mentions LVI, but this is not an LVI course, this is a course for all those interested in learning more about how the muscles interact with the joints and teeth.  Hopefully all will enjoy this approach.  We don't ignore the joints, and, if fact, try to draw the similarities of the differing functional approaches together so you can take what you know, CO, CR, NM, and build on that base.

If you want to do better restorative work, learn how to manage over-closed cases, or how to help little ol' ladies (I've had two such patients in the last month and I really enjoy seeing their amazement) get rid of headaches and stiff necks you may want to come and see.  I don't have other courses to 'sell' so we put it all out here-lecture, and hands-on and more hands-on.  Even docs that have taken Rod's denture course have attended to learn more about TENS'ing.  The last course had great attendees and I loved the interaction.

Quick update about me is that I am in private practice in Sacramento, CA, and although I have Full mouth cases in the works, the majority of what I do is bread-and-butter dentistry, and that's where I'd like this upcoming course to focus on.  We'll focus on practical treatment and treatment planning that anyone can apply.  Things like:  How to make your restorations more predictable in function?  How to treat dental pain?  How to then apply this knowledge to set up larger cases?  All the fundamentals and principles for success will be shared.

So my apologies to you, Dr. Timmerman, and the ACE Forum, but I hope to see you at the course where I can make it up to you.  And I even hope to see you at the HDiQ Live event before that in April.  Like you, I am a true believer in education, and in what you all do.

Respectfully and Sincerely,

Mike
