Re: [MTC Global] Best approach for Literature review.....

Dear Prof. Salimath

I am glad that we are having this discussion. Here are a few suggestions to undertake a good literature search.

If you have a specific topic to research on then:

a. First make a search in information sources like web of science, scopus, ebsco, abi/ inform, google scholar, jstor, etc. The idea is to search for bibliographic information including abstracts on relevant topics.
b. make a selection of relevant papers from here and compile it into a detailed bibliography.
c. read the abstracts and then read the relevant full papers.
d. choose the references from references in text and those provided at the end of the paper and read the full papers.
e. now make a selected bibliography with portions of the papers that may be relevant for your paper writing. this will be necessary if you are quoting from various papers.
f. classify or categorise this bibliography by your need like date of research, geographic scope, sample scope, methodology, etc
g. this will make your literature survey a exhaustive and good one.

The most important part of a paper / research is the literature survey and review. Hence the most important scholarly sources should be included in your step a.

It may be worth noting that at the IIM Ahmedabad library we have started a service to help management researchers in India to do the first step of searching EBSCO, ABI INFORM, JSTOR, and most of the international journals relevant to management. Dear esteemed intellects.,
Greetings for the day!

Thanks for the overwhelming response to my last discussion link.
Most of us in MTC Global are pursuing PhD and are in various stages of our research.. i request you all to share the various methods of doing literature review(in detail). few says you need to find out data on all the various researches in the related topic, and few says you need to collect information on the quotes given by various thinkers in various years.
but what kind of approach is the best one.
