Re: [ACEsthetics] Weight training

Thanks, everyone!

I have been working out for ten or fifteen years and have played tennis and golf for fifty years, been doing Pilates for a couple of years now. I do have a trainer a couple of days at week at 5AM.

But I keep thinking that I should do a bit more, especially for my lower back and BFG (big f**king gut). I know I am eating okay! I definitely should do more running, though.

So, maybe I need to challenge my trainer to work me out more on some of these things. My son's advice (of the internet variety) is that the Smith machines aren't so good.

Luckily, I found a super fit, ex-professional athlete at the gym who offered to help me today with some of these things (he might be my new best friend!). Used to play professional tennis! But 60 years old and fit as a fiddle, so I know I need to get to the gym more often.

David, unfortunately, golf is not so hard on you, but if you play fast and walk, it is a decent workout. Not for building strength, though. The twelve inch curls at the nineteenth hole (hoisting a beer) is about the extent of most golfers exertions! :)

I've been doing every other day wts plus racquetball for the past 3 monthswith a personal trainer.  He's AWESOME & sees me EARLY! ( 6:3o am alot!) which is REALLY convenient! HIGHLY recommend a trainer too.  $35/ 30 min.  He also owns the cafe in the club & makes me protein shakes after each session. I would NOT start doing wt training w/o a personal trainer, at least to get you started!

Squats are really great....as are lunges, for legs that is...
At my age, I prefer the Smith equipment for this though...yes it doesn't
create as much fine muscle work, since the bar and weights are on a track, but
it does help avoid injury, and allows you to take it slow at first.

BUT, definitely do this under the guidance of a personal trainer.
I can't imagine how anyone can do effective workout without a trainer.

I am thinking that with some of the aches and pains I have been getting, I need to be challenging my muscles a bit more.

My son sent me this link about doing squats, it is pretty interesting. http://stronglifts.com/how-to-squat-with-proper-technique-fix-common-problems/

What do you real workout fanatics think about this, will I hurt myself, can I really look like Arnold in a few weeks?

Thanks
