Re: [ACEsthetics] Weight training

Squat, bench press and dead lift 5 times?? I'd rather stick needles in my eyes..talk about boring!!! See if your trainer has thexTRX
System . Amazing how much you can do with those and you will see results ..low stress, uses your body weight and resistance

The exercise regimen that my son is doing is called 5 on 5 or something like that, and he is only doing three exercises, the squat, the bench press and the dead lift. Five reps, for five different times before moving to another exercise.

I will visit with my trainer tomorrow and see what she thinks, but I think I might want to shake things up a bit and do more free weights, fewer machines.

I do think we often place limitations on ourselves because we CAN, not because it is that much harder to do now at my age. Hell, it was never easy to run, never easy to lift, never something I just thought I wanted to spend time doing. Tennis was easy and fun, and I could stay out there for a long time, because it was fun.

The funny thing is that the guy sounds like the French guy in "Talledega Nights"- you know with Will Farrell as Ricky Bobby!

I have been weight training for over 40 years. I can tell you that squatting may be the most important exercise, for it literally works the entire body. The trick is to start out light--like with a stripped barbell. A stripped barbell weighs 45 lbs. You must develop proper form before progressing to higher weights. Other useful exercises include bench press, rowing, overhead press and dead lift. If you stick to these, you will not need anything else.

I am thinking that with some of the aches and pains I have been getting, I need to be challenging my muscles a bit more.

My son sent me this link about doing squats, it is pretty interesting. http://stronglifts.com/how-to-squat-with-proper-technique-fix-common-problems/

What do you real workout fanatics think about this, will I hurt myself, can I really look like Arnold in a few weeks?

Thanks
Rick
