RE: [ACEsthetics] Dentrix updates (G series)

Deb:

Despite all the hoopla about macs, other than office management software, virtually all dental softwares that I use, including my cbct, photo management, and all 3rd party guided surgery applications with the exception of one that is now available in mac form are windows based, so in my view there is no major advantage to change.  Although recently the macbook 13 inch came out on top as the most problem free WINDOWS laptop, that was not the case with desktop macs, or even the larger portable macs.  In my estimation, at least the way I practice which is technology intensive, mac as a platform is still under development, and I find that the windows 7/8 program is very solid for the myriad of dental softwares that I run.  As for Dentrix, they are notorious for completing their “beta” testing on the general user population.  That’s why many of us shelve a new release for a minimum of 6 months before installing, as there are generally a couple of updates posted on their website fixing the problems.  My 2 cents.

By the way, dell took a bunch of the top ten positions in the rankings, while hp had NONE

We just got brand new computers (not Mac) for the office a month before we updated our Dentrix...I like our ipads, but I am not the biggest fan of our Mac computer.

Have you considered switching to Viive. Henry Scheins new mac based software?

ESP you Gary since you re a mac guy.

I was one of the original partner/creators. Schein bought us and have really developed it further and beautifully. If you re thinking new computers anyway consider this. They have a conversion from Dentrix. It's so user friendly, clean and beautiful. Come see it at my office

I’m not sure that is necessarily a bad thing.  The cost to value ratio of paying for the annual upgrades, receiving a software that generally has 4 or 5 screwups that need to be corrected before we feel comfortable going to that version, for a few added features that frankly we often don’t use, and I often question why?

Damn.  Maybe I want to read a little more of this thread.  We are still running g3, are installing a new server so we thought we would simply do the installation of g4 and then g5 to the new server, was on the phone with their tech support folks Friday.  Maybe I’m going to hold off and see where this thread goes with the g5 discussion.
