Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate-2] What is there in a dress code?

Dear All

Management students are the corporate professional of tomorrow ,though having proper dress when one is in the school/college gives one set of confidence and sense of oneness, yet corporate have changed/changing where being causal is the sell out point and is itself promoted when these companies go on for the hiring in the campus .Google being one of them where there is complete freedom to choose your attire or for that matter where you want to sit to work (you can choose to sit in the gym and work if you want). So if these big giants corporate are of the view that it is the quality of individuals/skill set that really matter and not their attire why is that we  still stress upon having a dress code.

I think we should change with the culture and imbibe the change itself .(Though mindset vary from person to person)

Thanks

Dear All,

Unkempt Appearance and Personal Hygiene:
Recently had a chance to visit one of the coveted organizations and was stunned with the immaculately dressed corporate citizens of the organization, it was a feast to the eyes, which aptly reminded me of my President's constant hammering , that groomed and smartly dressed girls and boys always score over the rest besides other credibility.
Attire inspires credibility and professional conduct has to do with professional appearances.
It is an individual's responsibility to look good, smart and properly attired in a formal setting. Dress sense must inspire credibility whether one is a woman or a man.

I feel there should be no strict rules for students in B Schools for Dress codes. what a strict dress code  may do is to steal the one  of the powers of expression from the students. I suggest dressing should be what suits to the need of the individual. It should be communicated to the students that they should do socially sensitive dressing. It would mean that I as a student should dress in a manner which helps me to socially relate to the group in which I am  a member to.

Sometimes we are surprised when the guest faculty at CEO level or senior corporate level from a large respected organization comes in informal or casual attire ( jeans and t-shirt) and we have announced to students that they have to come in super formal attire.
