Fw: Re: [MTC Global] Don't ever attempt to do Ph.D. in Business Management if you satisfy all or any one of the following conditions.

Dear Dr. Chetan Srivastava Sir,

.... excellent, realistic and very humble presentation....kindly come out with this kind of guidance as and when time permits you sir....

....In fact, absolutely I did theoretical, causative and analytical research only in two of my doctoral Theses....Unfortunately, people consider theoretical research as a kind of cut-copy-paste kind of research....In fact, taking reasoning ability itself as a kind of tool, one can do wonderful research based on deductive vis-a-vis inductive logic....

... of course, for my research in Psychology and Management, I did empirical research with the latest research methods and techniques right from factor analysis, multiple regression, principal component analysis to Path diagrams/ dendrogram, etc....

....as it was rightly observed by you, each method has got its own significance.... the only thing is it shall be a true research and a true contribution out of one's own mind-set as well...

.... though water is a product of hydrogen and oxygen, yet it is qualitatively different from its constituents..... that is, creation of water out of hydrogen and oxygen shall be the original contribution of theoretical researcher....

... dear dr. chetan and dr. appallaiah sirs' .... I wish you to open this kind of true intellectual debates in the days to come.... fortunately, both are  known to me and well wishers.... with regards....

Dear All,

I would like to add up my views, pursuing Ph.D is all about Passion, pursuit of knowledge, a journey towards unleashing the unknown and strengthening the known...

I feel that the Ph.D should be pursued using the usually followed (set) principles of research or make some reliable breakthrough approaches, which can stand the testimony of facts.

I feel that there is no set way for this, no right no wrong approach, it need not be only quantitative based or empirical research, a good management research can also be quantitative one and also secondary data based, but one has to have an outcome which can be completely practical, or can bring a paradigm shift..

Ph.D is all about pursuit of Knowledge and not just a process for career growth....

Rest views to follow.....open to positive criticisms,

Regards,

Dear Mr.Goel,

The words/phrases used by Prof. Meesala are little rude as it has been mentioned there " Nobody should think of doing PhD" etc. I strongly disagree with this kind of mentality, where PhD holders create an atmosphere of superiority ego perspective preventing the growth of research culture in India. Knowing five/six statistical tools do not mean you are a great researcher. Knowing and using statistical tools is just seeing a very small part of the ocean. As management research is fast becoming a domain of inter-disciplinary research, no narrow understanding of the research definition should be encouraged. I have seen 4/5  excellent research thesis of the IIM Fellow students during my recent visit to IIM Indore and an earlier visit to XLRI Jamshedpur, where the research has been taken in a much broader meaning. Even, in these institutes, the research board decides the topic of research in many cases. Research means passion for bringing some betterment in society and 99% of the traditional Indian researches in search of PhD degrees guided by the old thinking professors simply go to thrash . So, this time, please wake up to the call of the time. Our focus should not be parochial , narrow but should be encouraging, participative, learning oriented; where management and history, management and communication, management and entertainment, management and anthropology etc. can be pursued. We have produced good numbers of statistically sound old thinkers, but very few researchers of global merit.

Respected Prof. Meesala,

As an academician, you should not discourage others from pursuing PhD in management.

PhD is a learning process and every sincere candidate learn a lot during this knowledge exercise. May be the candidate requires more time to complete the same than a candidate, who is well equipped with all the research skills.

Moreover, now a days, many top class PhD thesis are being prepared on the basis of case study method, where extensive knowledge of statistical tool is not much required. Which is required in such case is called the conceptual and analytical skill.

The mentality of the Indian scholars, which can be properly described as "We and they syndrome', where "we' denotes PhDs and 'They' indicates non-PhDs, may be greatest reason for limited growth of research culture.

Thank you very much sir,

Regards,

Yours sincerely,
