He already knew Kent’s daughter would accept or he would not have done that. I took the most beautiful girl in Georgia to our Junior Prom…we called it The Ring Ball because we got our high school rings that night and we had to buy them. I asked her six months in advance because I knew she’d have several hundred invitations and fully expected to be turned down. She graciously accepted. She was the ugly duckling to swan story. She was never made up, hair never done and bad teeth. Between her freshman and sophomore years in high school her older sister took care of that. She was in my home room both freshman and sophomore years and it was three days before I recognized her and I was damned sure looking.
She graduated from UGA but was Mormon and went to Salt Lake to find a Mormon husband and married a damned abusive truck driver. Her family was very poor but her sister’s did well and supported the other sister’s. There were eight gorgeous women and one ugly brother. I told him once he could be grateful he did not walk like those sisters at least. She finally escaped that husband and married the bishop of the Georgia Mormon Church. A few years later she had a stroke attributed to the beatings she had during her first marriage.
I wrote her a letter with my wife’s help (Jeanette had met her several times and loved her) telling her no matter what happened, nothing could take away her beauty because the bulk of it was inside. I saw her at a class reunion this year and all she could do was cry when talking to Jeanette and me so we must have done OK on the letter. She is still a beautiful woman. She had a very deep voice and it was amazing hearing that coming from a drop dead gorgeous 5’7” 125 lb. woman.

My girls are a few years out of high school, but I've heard of these "promposals". Must be brutal if the guy gets turned down.

We are seeing similar stuff. For homecoming too.

They didn't do it this way years ago, but these days, it seems that prom invites have gotten rather complicated. This guy surprised my daughter in our back yard with a song he had written that was a request for her to go with him. He waited for a few hours for her to come home and surprise her, and I must say he was pretty good. He does belong to a band, so that would be one reason, but honestly, none of the kids acted like this was anything special, and I have seen other elaborate invites as well. Are you seeing this in your area as well?
