Case Against UB Students Adjourned to June 12

Case against 16 UB Students Adjourned June 12

The case against the UB students which took place amid tight security, in camera at the Buea court of first instance has been adjourned to the 12 of June. The matter was adjourned to enable all the 19 prosecution witnesses testify against the students. 4 of the witnesses have so far been heard. The 16 students who were all denied bail are those arrested during the May 15 violent protest.

Meanwhile reports say 24 other students are today before judges of the Buea Court of First instance to answer similar charges of destruction of property and for disturbing public peace. They were amongst those who were arrested during the 2013 February UB strike. Sources are hinting that there are plans to deny all the 40 students now awaiting trial at the Buea production prison bail.

The Magistrate handling the matter is reportedly Beatrice-Bea Ntuba, while the state prosecutor is Njonjo John Njie. Lawyers defending the University of Buea are Barristers Tanyi Mbi and Tanguini Gilbert.
