[ACEsthetics] New Post/Thread Notification: Dental Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep is becoming a racket and I think the MDs are fighting to grab every penny they can before insurance and Medicare shuts the door. I just saw the PA for a sleep doc who travels and we were talking about the tongue burning, which she says does not work and she knows it does not work because she has to constantly tell people then need to have it done again because they still have apnea and then tell them again after every burning procedure. The sleep doc only recommends it on people with mild apnea AND those who refuse to wear a CPAP. She said he KNOWS that MAD appliances work and keep on working but he does not do them and makes no money from them so he recommends only the tongue burning now. It is very frustrating for her now because he is not around and she is always forced to deliver the bad news and see the anger in the faces of the patients. She wants to tell them about the MAD appliances but has been told not to mention them until a dentist gets a Medicare number. I'm a heart beat away from having one. I'm anxious to see what he does then. His only truly certified lab is in the hospital's Doctor's Bldg. The rest are just rag tag centers thrown up in strip malls.

He fights the ambulatory tests but is now faced with patients in this area coming in and telling him that there sister/uncle/brother/etc had a mouth piece made by Dr. Moorman and they don't have apnea any more or they are not snoring or their apnea is much better and they have had the appliance for two years without any "tongue burning". A conflict is boiling. I'm getting aggravated enough to disallow it from being done in the hospital center because even the mid level providers know it does not work and it is simply a money churning process before Medicare and insurance shuts the door. I'm very interested to see where this is going to end. Some people could lose their licenses because of this crap. Guy
