Re: [ACEsthetics] Non Dental Posts on ACE

Since we're now talking bout eggplant casserole, I had something happen last week that hasn't happened
to me in about 30 years. Had a 12 yr old boy throw up while on the nitrous. And in the 34 years that I've been roaming around central grooves and cusps of Carabelli, It's only happened about 3-4 times. Had nitrous  since day one. Don't use it on everyone of course but it sure helps when you need it.

LOL, Greg.....perfect example right there..I don't know Greg Sawyer but I NOW know that he is a funny guy.  He is more likable to me.  If I just knew what kind of bonding agent he liked to use...well, who gives?

The next time I see a post from Greg (about anything) I will feel more connection to the dude and I will be more likely to read his posts.  Grant Ritchey is one of my best friends.  We live half a country apart but we have made a half dozen or so trips to hang out ONLY because of what we shared on this forum that was NON DENTAL.  Knowing what kind of diamond he likes to use when he is prepping for an onlay is great, but it doesn't transcend dentistry.

Do we have to just see ourselves as dentists?  Life is too short as it is.  I don't know anything about Jack Weiss's dental philosophy (I don't remember ever reading anything dental from Jack).  Heck, I don't even know if he is a dentist, but I have been enriched by all of his Alabama stuff, his liberal politics stuff, etc..  He is a fun guy!!

just my humble thoughts.

Since you asked, I'll tell you.   you haven't just posted, you have MONOPOLIZED the site for the past week.  This is first and foremost a dental aesthetic forum.  Participants have paid 300 dollars expecting to occasionally have a dental topic covered.  The occasional digression is fun, I do it all the time.  But if I go over the top and somebody calls me out on it, I shut up.  Occasional social stuff is fun.  On going personal conversation amongst a handful of participants not so much.

Personally, I find it inconsiderate and self centered to continue a discussion of narrow scope interesting to a handful of participants.  It completely ignores the rights and input of the rest.  And of course takes bandwidth from the true mission of this forum.

Again, the occasional banter keeps it fun.  But ongoing diatribes should be taken private so those who wish to participate can, and those who don't, don't.

I would like to convey that I really enjoy the ND posts on this forum.  Whether it be about NSA, or sports, or politics, or even vaccinations. I learn a lot from hearing other people's opinions.  After all, us dentists are from a certain cross section of people.  We are analytical (for the most part) and fairly highly educated.  I don't often hear a Canadian's viewpoint, or the viewpoint of a paranoid fear mongerer (Bruce, (just joking).

Steve Hendry (I don't know the first thing about that guy from a dental standpoint but I know he is a very complicated, thoughtful, and opinionated guy.  Why is it wrong to exchange with him, or witness his exchanges with others?  We are all grown ups and we won't let this get emotional.  Grant Ritchey is the only one who carries things to far!!!  We can reprimand him or fine him.

Really, the exchanges make me feel more connection with these people that transcends implant placement and bonding agents.  It fills in the gaps. Dentistry talk is great but non dentistry is great too!

After all, human connection is what life is mostly about, isn't it?  That, and Abraham Lincoln;s tyranny (just kidding)

I don't know why some ACEr's many of which I really respect a lot (Ray Voller) are opposed to non dental posts.  It would seem like a "to each his own" kind of thing.  I don't open most of the subject matter that I see but I don't "delete" anything.  What is the benefit of "deleting" vs. just letting it sit on your computer?
