Quick question to both of you. Is the topic limited only to "Marriage" in its conventional definition, or we can add to that, other societal phenomena like "Kam Make We Stay", Njumba Marret, Room "Mating", "Extended Stay Boy/Girlfriend cohabitation", Wata Go Leave Stone relationships.

In these few examples, there are no specific parameters that define who stays or "concubines" with whom. When it comes to plain and simple "Bedmatics" there is no NW or SW. For that one, "Action speaks better and louder than words".

 

Generally, the main criteria of selection in the Njumba Marret category is Good Langua (sweet mop), a good "Paying" job or business, your generosity (Here if you are a konto man with Japanese hand brakes, chances are you will remain a bachelor for life. Who wants to deal with a guy who counts money inside his pockets with his fingers?) On the contrary, if your "to-be Njumba" calls you and says she lost her cousin and you come to the "Die-House" and "shake skin" (financially) like "man-boy", you can rest assured that, you will "Win" her love and she would never care one iota about your Bamendrous trong mintu back-foot, thick waist or your Bayangui, Bakweri, Oroko crobeau head.

 

If you even ask my honest opinion, I sincerely think the best marriage out there is the "Kam Make We Stay" type....in which "You Kommot, I kommot or Tu sors, Je sors aussi" no questions asked. No contractual binding anything. No marital obligations. No pretentious posturings like we find in ALL marriages today. Show me one single marriage out there where the couples are not lying to each other. Na So The World ih dey.

So SAF don't you think the SW men., apart from epicurean considerations somehow feel there is a characteristic  over bearing trait in the natural behaviours  of Graffi women they cannot contend with? If not why can we Graffi men handle their women so sucessfully in every situation but their men  cannot handle our women? What are these men scared of? Is it possible to believe that our women are not attractive enough for them? You and I know that cannot be true. So there is an issue your politically correct answer failed to address, SAF.  [dixit:FEN]

I have pondered over the questions you asked above for about 24 hours; searching in my old brain for answers to your questions.  Personally, I know of a medical doctor from the SW, a neighbors and friend in Baltimore, who is married to a Graffi woman.  While I can't pin my finger on other examples of men from the SW who are married to Graffi women, I believe there are a good number.  While the stats are not there, I am sure if we search among the younger generation of kids from both the NW and SW who attended the same school, worked or are working in the same company or government agency, we might run into SW men who are married Graffi women.

Before asking this question I had a opinion about it that is so different from yours. As a child of such a home, I used to listen to my aunts who usually came to visit their sister - my mother up in Graffi land, commenting about how they felt when my mother decided to marry my father. . The conversation always started when they wanted to appreciate how well my mum was doing with a Graffi husband - my father. They were really surprised how successful my mum had been since she left with my father to Graffi land. In their minds given how "backward" the Graffi people and the entire region was, and then coupled with the harsh cold,  they never believed she would last a year. But when they dared to visit her, years up the line they were surprised how good she was doing and how healthy the children (us) were. But they could never reconcile with the cold anyway. 

So in discussing this issue not only did their misgivings limit themselves to my mother's choice of  husband, they were also concerned that she would never have enough to eat once there  - since they believed in the myth that Graffi people were always very frugal  so far as their stomachs are concerned.

The disparity may be due to the large number of NW men in the SW.  You know ours is a society that does not discriminate.  If a lot of Graffi men are in the SW, they will obviously look for partners.  The partners would most likely be women from the SW.  My brother for instance married a Bassa woman back in the late 60s.  Why? He fell in love with her during OSUCS (is that the right acronym?).  Back then, there weren't many Graffi women in the SW.  Had I continued to live in the SW I would have married a Bassa girl as well.

Hello SAF

I know statistics are not available on the issue of marriage between Southwesterners and Northwesterners, but the picture seems to indicate that there are more instances of marriages between Southwest women and Northwest men than Southwest men and Northwest women.

Can you or anybody offer any possible explanation?
