Re: [MTC Global] Reality Check-- MBA Project Work

Just another example of how a set system is being blindly followed despite realization that there is neither a learning experience nor actual productivity. Infact in our Institute and so also in many others students are encouraged to get Internship in their own sourced corporate....and in most cases due to influence or recommendations they are just accommodated by giving them some or other projects which neither contribute to their learning nor would it be of use to them in terms of value additions to their Fresher's CV.
In Delhi....there is a place in South Delhi called Ber-Sarai....that is the students hub...with JNU (South Campus ), IIT-D, Forbes School of Management, IMI, IIM and another few institutes nearby....and there are Specialists who just need the Corporate's Name and the Project Title....rest all they have readymade formats for the Internship Report and it is brisk business during May/June & July. Some time back I had to buy some craft materials ( thermocoal sheets, gum, glitters, ribbons etc for a project for my son )....the Stationery shop where I got the materials...asked me what project it is...I told him and then he fished out a mobile no. from his Diary and gave it to me...saying I just need to give the materials and additional Rs.250/- and within 3-4 days I could get good quality project readymade...
So you see even kids are being deprived of the process of learning by the learned ones who make business out of their learned skills for making some fast buck to supplement their growing demands.
One such student who appeared with a readymade project for the Viva...gave a shock to the outsourced industry person and also got an equal return shock. The corporate where he had undertaken the Internship.....he was queried on who gave him the data and guided him in the analysis...he named the Director of the corporate....the interviewer asked him the director's name ( already mentioned in the project report )....and also asked when he met this gentleman the last time....the student said he met him about 15 days back....the interviewer then informed the student that the MD whom he named has been dead for a decade now.....so may be he met his Ghost as also the Project Report which he had submitted.....
All these shocks continue to rock management education and AICTE is like Dhritrashtra...blind to what's happening in Management Schools....this disparity in what corporate wants and what is being peddled out by management schools and the half baked projects are responsible in a way for the growing chasm in Unemployed MBA's.

Industry does not see any relevance of MBA project with their mission.

Just as a custom, they give a certificate.

In most cases, they see the students as a disturbance to their routine.

The guides also don't work with any objective that will be useful or palatable to the industry.

In fact, they are clueless about what they should do so that it gives something worthy in the eyes of the industry.

The faculty, while guiding the projects, should earn the respect of the industry by producing some thing useful to the latter through project reports.

Industry do not encourage MBA project work. Do not ensure students learn. Simply give the certificate. On the other side there are many entrepreneurial venture who does the outsource work. Many have tie up with the companies for arranging project on commission basis. Ideally project should lead to placement but rarely it happens.

Many universities do not allow  students to do project in NGO/ NPO and sole proprietorship firm.

GAP will continue to remain and will get widen..
