Re: [MTC Global] Which Management field to choose

Dear Sir,
Very Good Afternoon!
Based on my experience, interaction with students and prevailing industry expectations, please find below my views:

1. MBA itself is a full-fledged course. At entry level [campus interview] , specialization might matters'but in due course it doesn't matter. I have seen many students with Marketing Spl working in HR and so in other specializations.

2. Many companies take freshers across all specialization for a similar job profile namely Oracle for their North American Sales [KPO] open the offer across all specializations.

3. Multi-Skilling / Cross functional knowledge is the top order of the day.

4. If the candidate with BE background and has few years of industry experience then the selection of specialization preferably should be in line with the prior experience to have leverage.

5. For a fresh BE graduate opting for MBA, specialization depends on many factors:
- Marketing profile [ like global sales/marketing or B2B business] is preferred. This may not work out well for a tier-II institution as most of the IT Companies select candidates from top B-schools.
- There is a trend that BE graduates take operation/production management as specialization. But this is good if the candidate has few years of prior experience.
- Few B-schools are offering Business Analytic as specialization and there is a very good prospect as Big Data/Meta Data is making news along with Business Intelligence.
- If dual specializations are offered it helps to have best combinations.
- Many top Investment companies select Engineers for for their role as it happens in IITD. So having engineering background , selecting Finance Specialization may be a good idea. Again it depends on the status of the B-schools.
-- Placement Director should make a detailed analysis based on the kind of companies visit campus and develop employability index for the students.

6. AT THE END, IT DEPENDS OF THE INTEREST OF THE CANDIDATE. EVERY FIELDS HAS EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES BUT THE CANDIDATE MUST BE EXCELLENT IN THE CHOSEN AREA.....................I say listen to your HEART at the END.

MTC Global family wishes all the best for your SON, Sir.
Kindest Regards,
Bholanath

Dear Dr. Ratti,

If he is still in his first year, let him not think of choosing one over the other. Let him first sink in the academic ambience and towards of the end of the first year make his choice.

Both the disciplines have their own charm. Marketing need not necessarily mean a traveling job. Sales is.

My suggestion: Your son should study Symbiosis' placement pattern. He should figure out how many students got job offers in operations vis-à-vis marketing in the previous years. And how many companies participated in Symbiosis' placement season to fill 'operations' related vacancies? Which are they and what kind of career path are his seniors who opted for 'operations' enjoying today? He will get his answer.

Between Marketing and Operations, if I were a student, I would go for Marketing. At least I have a higher probability of getting a job.

Does this help?

Regards,

Praveen
