That's  good point, Howard.  Composite IS more technique sensitive, and I think sometimes amalgam is used as an excuse for lousy technique by guys who can't or won't or haven't learned how to do a proper composite.

That having been said,  some practitioners cross the line from using a material that will work in less than "close to ideal" situations, to not attempting to create the "close to ideal" situations and be able to use a superior material and produce a superior restoration.
