Re: [MTC Global] RE: India a view point

Dear MTCians,

The current situation in India is not as good or as bad as the protagonists or antagonists seem to portray. In fact, a country as big and as diverse as India cannot be painted with one brush.

What really matters is what we as citizens do in our own spheres of activity to improve the existing conditions and enhance the quality of life of our people. There are no insurmountable problems. We have certainly not arrived. We are engaged in an exciting and exhilarating journey. Obstacles and turbulence are bound to be there. They should not cause despair. We should constantly and continuously seek and implement creative and innovation solutions to the problems faced by our country.

Most important thing is how are we doing; we need not bother very much about who is saying what, when, where, how and why !

Please read the mail by Prof Tarun Das who replied to my mail , as follows.

Very balanced view on Incredible India. I agree with Prof. Ramesh Vemuganti. I have also held the views at some other place that "Many of the economic reforms initiated in July 1991 remain unfinished due to political economy constraints. If these reforms in land, labor, capital markets, energy sector, education, civil services, governance, municipalities and corporations are brought to their logical ends, then India would emerge as one of the most favorable destination and a land of immense opportunities for all. India is a miracle waiting to happen. All foreign investors and development partners are welcome to participate in that exciting journey of India's development process over the next two decades.

All the parameters you mentioned in your mail registered a significant growth, despite the fact, I repeat, despite the fact that , more than one third of Indians were BPL. That number has come down substantially, of late, will come down more & all efforts are in that direction.

Three drastic changes are required - a more accountable & people centric Govt at Centre & States, Two, Change in politicians focus on growth & development, not minting money. Their greed & thinking, to allow people BPL to languish for decades, must change. Three, India is replete with intellectual derelicts, who are a major factor in stunting our progress. They use their intellect for destructive purpose - criticism, cynicism, deep analysis of various indices, totally unasked for, discouraging others from doing anything, including talking. Instead, adopt a village, choose one area, do some contribution There are several areas to start off- just do it. or else, they must go out of the system.

In any case, " One man with courage is a majority" - Thomas Jefferson will always happen.

Dear Shri Vemuganti,
I have to admit that I am wondering: what exactly you want to convey? That "The growth & success story India has scripted is beyond the wildest imagination..." (quote from your text)? Yes, nobody would have thought that poverty has increased and is still continuing to increase after more than 6 decades of Independence and "success stories". Also, your plan to "make India a a Super power by 2025.," is well & good but, in the meantime, who will feed and clothe and educate the masses below the poverty line? They cannot wait till your dreamy 'superpower India' descends on them - and all will live happily ever after. Quite a bit cynical, your attitude, it seems to me.

This article is interesting from German perspective, not from Indian"s. Firstly, let us all resolve one thing. No European or South American or African nation must only compare with only one state in India - now with the entire country. In terms of population, homogenity, spread, area, language, culture, infra, Garmany must compare with one of our jewels - say Gujarat or Mahrashtra or Tamilnadu.. If they do not want to do business with India, it is their loss & not ours.
At a time when President Obama is doing his best to appease Indians & nurture a smooth relationship with India, David Cameroon is keen to enter into several tieups with India, Australia is bonding with us on many fronts, plethora of fast growing economies are making a bee line towards India for our brains, skills, knowledge, infrastructure, goods, services, people, heritage, spirituality, yoga, Krishna consciousness, meditative practices, holistic approach - Does one article matter.

We must take pride in the fact that along with China, we are an emerging superpower despite the fact that around 35 crores, almost a third, of our people are BPL..

What India was in 1947 & what it is today, -a saga of spectacular achievements in many fields, a transformation, a sea change?  Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel or Netaji would have been aghast & spellbound with the progress India has made. The growth & success story India has scripted is beyond the wildest imagination of these great leaders & leaders across all major economies, including Germany.

Now, we as intellectuals, not merely educated, must think SOLUTIONS for all our problems, with a 360 degree disposition . We need to hit back all such allegations.  Parallely, we need to aply pressure on our planners & economist to make our domestic economy stronger & make it independent.
We shall fight the corrupt, evil minded & selfish politicians & throw them out in next elections.  We will not blame, comment, criticize, compare or paint a poor picture of India, under all circumstances in any forum, meeting, seminar, organization, association,,,,,,,,,anywhere in the Globe.
Let us change, means, what ? Change our Attitude first, then a change in Approach next, followed by Assertiveness & reinforcing our Ambition to make India a a Super power by 2025.,

No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying.

Dear Sir, A truly ugly picture is painted by the western media especially the

India? In fact doing business with such a country is to get infected with the
contagion of unethical practices. Such reporting, shades of the " gutter
inspector's report" is cynical in nature. Such reporting is meant for the
consumption of us Indians into reinforcing the familiar stereo types as belonging
to an inferior and decadent civilization. It important to realize that Indian
democracy has yet to find its real soul. I do not think that anywhere on the globe
or in past history has such an experiment been conducted as in our country.
We have to discover what a democracy can do to govern a huge landmass with a
diversity that one will not find anywhere. In the life a civilization, we are yet
to evolve our systems of governance that is responsive to the people and protect
its interests.
Old values from our troubled past are slowly turning useless. There is friction
and even violence and it is true that our leaders are completely clueless. The
British gave us the model of governance that is itself in disrepair ( beyond
repair). Some may even suggest anarchy and the powerlessness of the law
enforcement machinery. There is a silent churning and new elites are forming and
clashing with the old.
It is easy for our elites to turn cynical , for the thinking people it is easy to
despair, but this will not get us anywhere. In the final analysis it boils down to
what we as individuals can do by way of discharging our responsibility and perform
our duties fearlessly and diligently and not caring a damn.

indifference to people's problems, rampant corruption and absolute lack of

As a banker and economist I used to respect Dr.Manmohan Singh . Now I have
completely lost all hopes . PM has position but no power ( the power is defused by
players behind the scenes, who are conducting shadow government through remote
control) nor is he able to exercise influence in a positive way. The country is
currently going through a leadership crisis and lack of value systems.
The judiciary has done its job by enforcing NOTA ( people's right to reject the
candicates in election )and banning convicts from contesting in the elections. The
ball is now in people's court. It is not only our fundamental right to vote but
our duty towards the country to elect the right people. When all of us feel this
responsibility and exercise our votes in the right manner, then we can bring a
change in the system and accountability of the Govt to the people. We have to be
hopeful to see the light at the end of the tunnel ,though the tunnel may be too
long and keep working towards it by motivating the people around us.
