What we have been talking of reservation and perhaps underlying concern is that reservation is at the cost some other merit holder – hence it goes against the principle of equal opportunities. That is why it cannot be substituted by any other type of reservation system, it can only be abolished. It goes without saying: I'm not against "welfare schemes" as such, but I'm deadly against the usual schemes which are "welfare" on the surface but exploitative and disadvantageous for sustainable development, MGNRGA only one of (the many). All of these are highly misused, and they don't help building up sustainable change in the future. At the best, they patch up what is needed at a given moment, i.e. reacting but not acting, no vision in planning, no vision at all. Most of the "welfare schemes" keep people in dependency, and this continues.
