CameroonJournal, Yaounde, January 29 – Three days after Marafa Hamidou Yaya’s Private Secretary, Christiane Soppo Mbango, was brutally killed in her residence in Yaounde, police have been unable to put hands on the perpetrators. However, the French daily Mutations on Tuesday quoted neighbours of the deceased as saying they spotted three men entrying her residence before the incident.

At her Bastos residence in Yaounde, family members, friends and well-wishers of departed Mbango who was allegedly murdered on Sunday afternoon, continued to mourn and wail. The atmosphere is tensed, and people keep coming and going in the presence of some police and Gendarme officers in uniform securing the area.

At her residence on Monday, Mbango’s corpse was covered with a white cloth in an inner chamber with an open window and a ransacked house with wounds on the arms and legs–signs pushing many to suggest this was a “disguised murder.”

Family members of the Private Secretary to the former Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization (MINATD), Marafa Hamidou Yaya are also questioning the authenticity of the autopsy report. “This is a scheme to erase all evidence, of which everything seems to proof that she was beaten to dead” a source told Mutations.

Neighbours of the deceased say they saw three men near her residence in the morning following the incident. By then, late Mbango had gone for her early morning sporting activity and was supposed to visit her former boss detained at the National Secretariat for Defence later that day-a visit she will never make.

Upon her return from the hills of Mont Febe, her usual sporting venue, the three men who neighbours say are identifiable entered into her home. “They spent more than ten hours,” one of the neighbours noted before concluding that “since they came out, we never saw her again.”

Reports say Marafa Hamidou Yaya is in a tizzy state. Soppo Mbango was his secretary for over 20 years. She became his trusted friend throughout the time he served as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Finance, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, including, as Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic.
