· This project will involve the creation of an iPad/iPhone app, which will consolidate all news-related applications into one
· Including to apps developed by candidate upon submission is highly preferred
· Ideal candidate profile will be someone with 3-5 years of experience dedicated to iOS with no previous programming history, or a senior level engineer who transitioned from PHP and/or Java to iOS development
· Major focus will be on back-end/ Objective-C development rather than App/UI level
· Interview process will consist of 1st round phone followed by 2nd/final round in person (Skype/non-local candidates not a problem, however will need to be 100% on site).
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop best in class News related mobile apps that will deliver breaking news, headlines, alerts, photos, videos and other related content.
· Create companion apps for the News products including News app, 60 Minutes and other show products on iOS platform.
· Experience to work in Agile Project Management & development methodology.
· Ability to work across a wide range of projects, each with specific functional and feature requirements.
· Collaborate closely with product managers, user interface designers, platform engineers, and multiple groups across CBS Interactive to define and implement product features.
· Build high-level user interfaces using rapid prototyping methodologies.
· Design application frameworks for use across multiple products.
· Work with internal technical teams to identify and build platform elements required to support key mobile product features.
· Create Technical Requirements Documentation based on Product Requirement Documents.
· Implement upgrades, rebuilds and additional porting of applications.
· Juggle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a results-oriented environment.
· Results-driven, able and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Evaluate opportunities to bring new product features and content to mobile users from a technical perspective.
· Build strong working relationships with co-workers, product and other intra company teams.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Thorough knowledge of the iOS, Objective C programming environment.
· Acted as a key contributor to at least 3 publicly released iOS applications.
· 7-10 years of Software development experience and minimum 3 years of iOS development experience.
· Background supporting the integration of rich media assets, including video, into mobile properties.
· Experience integrating ad serving products and analytics/reporting tools into mobile properties.
· Knowledge of SQLite preferred.
· Ability to integrate third party APIs and tools such as Video players, Subscription services etc.
· Experience creating, optimizing, and integrating Application Programming Interface (API) calls; background in API development preferred.
· Sound programming fundamentals: experience working with memory management, thread synchronization, and event based programming issues; utilization of sound engineering principles in writing code.
· Experience with evaluating and assuming responsibility for code written by third parties preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to build intuitive user interfaces for mobile applications.
· Ability to work in a cross-functional team alongside other developers contributing to the same code base library.
· Very strong interpersonal skills; must be able to demonstrate an ability to work well with other non-technical members of the development team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Played a significant role in the development of at least 3 major apps that have been published to the App Store have been downloaded by a decent amount of people and have positive reviews.
· Ability to work on PHP frameworks and mobile Web programming.
· Knowledge of Web Technologies (HTML, CSS, JS etc)
Experience with apps that use APIs, are optimized for performance and have great user interfaces.
