FW: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate- II] Some degrees pay for themselves; others don't.

We have to focus on three pillars of learning – Even if a degree has given you enough knowledge and you do not have right skills to use the knowledge, it becomes redundant . As such also knowledge is dynamic and new information keeps adding from time to time. Further if you have both knowledge and skills and you do not have right attitude to use your knowledge and skills to exploit full potential of an opportunity or to create new opportunity, even skills is unproductive. On the other hand even if you do not have knowledge (degree) and you have some skills and right attitude, you may gain knowledge and experience simultaneously to right your success story. Hence main function of degree (information/knowledge and may be some skills in certain cases) is to equip you to launch yourself in the domain area of your choice – rest will depend on one's performance.

The problem with Degrees is that most students are acquiring degrees but do not have requisite knowledge. The emphasis is on securing marks. I feel that curriculum should be design in such a way that learning process must be inculcated in the students. Understanding the subject instead of craming should be the buzzword of our education system.

Degree is not just an illusion. It is the manifestation of one's
potentials, efforts, traits and attitude. Though a degree cannot
ensure the return (in terms of money), it certainly opens the doors
of opportunity. And then the journey of individual starts that
depends on such factors as creative and critical thinking,
performance, etc.

One more thing, degree is not the only thing that helps earn money,
returns. Look at Scahin Tendulkar, Sharukhkhan, Abhitabha Bachchan,
Salman Khan, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Makarand Anaspure, Caterina,
Aishyarya Roy, Ambani and more than 300 MPs of India who are
Crorepati!
