Job Title: Unix/Linux Administrator

Location: Buffalo, NY
Duration: 3 month+ (Several Extension)
 
Job Description:
 
The Sr. Unix/Linux Systems Administrator will provide primary support of the Unix/Linux platforms.
One of the major areas of responsibility will be the support and maintenance of the AIX, Solaris and
Linux environment. The position requires an in depth knowledge of the UNIX OS.
This includes but not limited to: assisting in the implementation of the UNIX/Linux environment,
working closely with DBA’s, application teams, and Operations to ensure the optimal performance
of the environment. This position would also be involved with monitoring/maintaining the reliability of
all UNIX/Linux platforms.
 
Must have either AIX or Solaris and any flavor of Linux.  Must also have virtualization experience with PowerVM.
 
General Duties and Responsibilities:
 
•Ability to identify and resolve technical issues
•Capacity planning of the UNIX/Linux environment
•Follow all Information Technology processes (Change Management, Problem Management)
•Apply patches and upgrades as required
•Be able to work under pressure
•Experience working within complex technical environments
•Willing to take on new challenges and eager to learn
•Exceptional customer support and communications skills
•Technical writing/documentation skills
•Provide after hours on-call support and weekend work on a rotating basis
•Proposes and implements systems enhancements that will improve the reliability and
performance of the systems
•Monitor usage and performance and ensures stability of the systems
Work Experience Requirements:
•3 years plus of experience working with AIX, Solaris, and/or Linux
•Strong working knowledge and skill with PowerVM (virtualization), VIO, and NIM
•Knowledge of Oracle virtualization technologies, Zones and LDOM.
•Knowledge of TCP/IP and network monitoring
•Detailed oriented, able to document environment
•Solid verbal and written communication skills
•Be able to resolve problems and escalate with vendors and internally as required
•The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Education Requirements
