I tried a very successful experiment. Weekends i.e. Saturdays and Sundays were assigned to various activities and students were asked arrange their own events – be it in the field of sports, or music or dramatics or debates or cookery competitions. Only conditions were that such events had to be organized by students only and every student had to be a part of one or the other event. Originally response was poor but after few weeks it became a highlight or the institute and it suddenly brought about a tremendous change in the students towards learning.
Placement is only a launching of the career. Success has to be defined in terms of potential (of self as well as available opportunity) and the actual achievement that would lead to career growth.

How should we measure student success?
Should institutions focus mainly on high completion rates, ensuring that students are successful in attaining their degrees? Or should students be encouraged to engage in a wide range of campus activities beyond their academics to develop well-rounded individuals? Or should students be made capable to acquire jobs in their fields? Or should students be encouraged to pursue what interests them, embarking on post-secondary education as a means of self-discovery?
