Re: [MTC Global] Transition from a Department to Centre for Excellence--A Road Map

Dear All,

That brings us to the good news of the day: by applying Pareto's Principle to the Prof. Bholanathjee's 40 point Transition Agenda and Road Map, we can still have at least 8 Centers of Excellence in a vibrant organization, where everyone believes in doing good and doing it well.

Cheers,

Prof.G.S.Autee

My views on Department and Center of Excellence are:
1.
Department is a broad Division of knowledge concerned with a specific area, e.g., Mechanical Engineering
Department that consists of three major sub-areas "Power, Design and Production" groups that can further be
clustered around several courses. Thus a Department may have a number of Centers that can be termed as
Centrs
of Excellence.
2.
Center of Excellence narrows down to a very small area of broad division of knowledge well eqqquipped with
resources and talent that can work as a good solution shop to help solve/achieve some real-life issues
including training and R & D. The workforce is highly talented and experienced in certain areas. We have
Centers of Excellence for CAE, Material Sciences,Instrumentation and Control, Green Fuel, Bio-gas, etc.
Centers of Excellence are normally having traces of interdsciplinary approach with a major emphasis on one
area of knowledge.

It is really excellent , most worthy useful and realistic with the passage of time. Since Training is a
function of k-Knowledge, S-skill and A-Attitude, in reality
it does not happen. The faculty must know the application of research to industry. Thus, the faculty , prior
to joining the management institute, shoul
be associated as an intern to the industry or reputed NGOs / organisations for about one two two years.

More over one of the criteria of faculty selection should be industry face. This does not happen. Faculty
should also concentrate on primary research.
Now a days research concept has been lagging. Thanks to HRMD ministry and the New govt that they realised
and steps have been initiated.
A lot is to be done. The academic institution should be free politics.

Incidentally I am sending my cv which will speak of my attainments and abilities.
