Job Description:
Client is seeking: Database Administrator
Seeking an experienced DBA to develop and support a high performance applications environment.
Responsibilities:
• Design, installation, configuration, administration, tuning, monitoring/auditing, maintenance and upgrading of SQL server databases and applications.
• Development of database strategies, to improve performance, capacity and planning for future expansion requirements.
• Diagnosing and resolving database access, outage and performance issues.
• Plan, co-ordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the databases.
• Assist with the overall design and strategy for the application and infrastructure architecture of the global business and administration systems and any changes to them.
• Adhere to standards and guidelines based on industry best practices towards management of information within an enterprise environment encompassing data integrity and security protocols.
• Ensure all proposed changes to the live application or infrastructure environments are suitably tested with roll-back capability and change controls exercised accordingly.
• Develop scripts, stored procedures and triggers
• Provide work estimates.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Work with internal and external Data Center teams to ensure databases and critical applications are properly backed up and protected in accordance with the needs of the application's primary stakeholder and our disaster recovery and data retention policies.
• Any other duties assigned to meet the requirements of the position.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in MIS or related experience
• Proven experience in a DBA role within a 24 x 7 global support environment.
• Solid Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – 2012 installation, administration and optimization experience including associated components.
• Good Oracle Database installation, administration and optimization experience including associated components.
• Deep experience in developing scripts, stored procedures and triggers.
• Understanding of Visual Basic and .net.
• Good working knowledge of Windows Server 200x, Webservers (IIS, Apache, Tomcat), Active Directory, and Linux.
• Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts and best practices
• Oracle DBA experience in an SAP environment is a plus.
• Ability to document processes and procedures, including technical diagrams towards organizational data flow.
• Can demonstrate a strong understanding from an enterprise perspective about how all data, applications, hardware and users function and interact.
• Understands the concepts of high availability and disaster recovery with respect to database systems.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to interact positively at all levels and is a good team player.
• Able to effectively negotiate with and influence colleagues and others to achieve a successful outcome.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills; can clearly explain and present problems to others and contribute to their resolution.
• Able to exercise tact and diplomacy in an organizational setting.
• Methodical approach to work, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
