Simple breath test to diagnose Type 1 Diabetes
Type I Diabetes is a genetic disease in which the body cannot produce its own insulin, stopping proper regulation of blood sugar. Scientists have now developed a breath test that could spot the early signs of Type 1 diabetes in children long before they start to show symptoms. The test is based on the fact that lack of insulin means the body cannot use sugar for energy and starts to break down fat instead and produce ketones which can be measured in breath.
