An ancient book attributed to the legendary British playwright, William Shakespeare, has been discovered at a library in France.
Shakespeare's First Folio, published in 1623, was found in the northern town of Saint-Omer, France, the library director said.
Rémy Cordonnier added that he came across the book in September when he was selecting books for an upcoming exhibition on historic links between the local region and England.
"It was sitting on a shelf alongside other books by English authors," said Cordonnier, who runs the library's rare books collection.
The discovered book is the second known copy in France, while the only other known copy of First Folio is at the National Library in Paris.
First Folio was published by two of the Bard's fellow actors and closest friends and includes 36 of Shakespeare's 38 known plays of his comedies, histories and tragedies.
William Shakespeare is known by many as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist.
His plays have been translated into every major living language and are frequently staged all around the globe.
